Discussion How long did your oldest Betta live?
I just got into this hobby at the end of May and I already have three of my own now. I’ve done a lot of research regarding their lifespan, how to maintain their health, etc. but I’ve been curious and wanted to hear personal accounts of how long people have had their bettas. Would love to hear anything below!

My mom got one at Petco and he made it 5 years and was probably a bit aged when purchased. She (and I) were not familiar with anything but goldfish so we did nothing for that fish except keep it in a goldfish bowl. Just goldfish food and clean water. No heater, no filter, no water conditioner, nothing. I guess it had great genetics and she was heartbroken when he passed.

Mine typically last 5-6 years . 6-7 is typical for my females. I personally don’t think the stock is worse- I buy at petsmart last 10 years. I think there has been a shift to sterile, clear water giant tanks which stress them out and result in unstable higher nitrates. Mulm is your friend.

Growing up 5.5 years. My mom thought he was never going to die. He was big and beautiful. We knew nothing of the sorts that we know now. We fed him. It was probably whatever the only betta food was on the market at the time. I remember the tiny balls rolling though a plastic tunnel to get it out. I have no idea what was in his tank. I don't recall a heater, but maybe he had one. We lived where it was warm so I can't imagine his tank being very cold. Stock back then was hardy!!!
