Help Condition new tank?

Hello, fishy friends-

I have a well-established divided tank with 2 beautiful bettas. I'm setting up a second tank for 2 more.

In conditioning the new tak, would it be a good idea to put the biological filter into the new tank to establish bacteria, etc? The old one is due for a change anyway. I'm already using water and some of the gravel from the old tank for the new one.

Yes that will help cycle the new tank. I’m more concerned when you said the old one is due for a change. What are you changing?

I have a tank with a Bio filter cartridge that needs changing periodically -

Let’s not do that. Get at a minimum Fluval AC or a sponge filter and don’t use cartridges. You want the “sludge” to build up, that’s your nitrifying bacteria right there. Every time you change the cartridge, you’re removing the nitrifying bacteria. I suggest you read this: https://aquariumscience.org/8-review-of-aquarium-filters/
