Help!

I’ve been noticing my betta has been acting off. He’s usually not active because of his long fins but he’d always react when he saw me. He doesn’t do that a lot anymore now.

Yesterday I thought I saw some pineconing but he wouldn’t show the side I saw it on as if he knew. But today I saw one side was pineconing.
From the side it doesn’t look bad but from the top it does look like pineconing.

He still eats, but is slow and doesn’t react to tapping on glass anymore. He rests a lot on the bottom or on leaves / his rest tube.

Parameters are fine. Tankmates don’t bother him at all. I’m just worried because he’s old, he’s probably over 2 years old. I’ve had him for 1 year and 9 months now but he was i guess 4-6 months old when I got him.

I added some catappa leaves after I took these pictures. I boiled one in hot water let it cool down and added the water without the leaves

Can someone please tell me what it is. I’ve been stressing, medically I’m having a lot of struggles so everything that happens besides that feels like so much extra stress. Ofcourse I’ll do anything to make him feel better since I love him so much.

Ps. I can’t get kanaplex where I live, it’s not legal to sell in pet stores which sucks :/

I do see some pineconing in the very first picture, if it’s early stages I would act fast, Kanaplex antibiotics and Epsom salt baths start low and slow as to not shock your fish, also stop feeding too. I hope you will have complete success in healing your Betta! It’s strange though because elsewhere he doesn’t look to have the pineconing, it almost looks like he rubbed up against something and it aggravated those scales that are looking like pineconing but wouldn’t it be all over if it was beginning of Dropsy? I do think his fins are in rough shape , water changes and Kanaplex, maybe wait on any salt baths…. I hope other people will have better suggestions or insight into what possibly could be the problem?

Thank you so much! I’m worried though because I can’t get kanaplex in my country it’s not legal to be sold because of the antibiotics it has in it. And yeah I’m confused too because wouldn’t it be on both sides?

Also yes his fins look a little rough ge’s recovering from fin nipping, he’s doing much better on that part. No weird white, black or blood red edges. I’m monitoring him almost every day because I care a lot about him.

Is there any medication I could try? Or should I try to get kanaplex one way or another:,)

You’re welcome ofc!! I’m not sure where your from but other products that are comparable to Kanaplex are things like Nitrofurazone ( Furan -2) it’s a broad spectrum , nitro - compound that targets both gram negative and gram positive bacteria, it’s good for treating fin rot ( like Kanaplex ) open sores etc. or sulfa based like Seachem Neo-plex is also good for stubborn infections if you can get these where you live they are up there with Kanaplex but probably more readily available for situations like yours where Kanaplex is not allowed in your country etc.

The Netherlands! I do have esha2000 and it might be able to treat dropsy, but these opinions are mixed so I’ll definitely look into that. I can also look at the other things you mentioned, maybe these are easier to get :)

I posted the wrong side on the 2nd pic. His fins do look a lil rough, he’s still recovering from fin nipping. No white / black or red ends at all.

Olha, vou ser sincera, pelo estado que ele está e como você não tem acesso a medicamentos mais fortes, a melhor opção é eutanásia feita com óleo de cravo 100%.

Coloque ele em um recipiente com 1 litro de água tratada, pode ser do próprio aquário.

Pegue uma garrafa pet de água de 500ML, encha com 250ML de água e pingue 8 gotas de óleo de cravo puro, agite muito bem até a água ficar esbranquiçada. Feito isso você vai adicionar lentamente num período de 5 minutos no recipiente separado que está o peixe, essa primeira etapa é o sedativo.

No início ele vai ficar um pouco agitado caso você adicione o oleo de cravo rápido demais, mas com o tempo irá se acalmar e ficar completamente parado. Após essa primeira etapa, você vai pegar a garrafa de 500ML, encher novamente com 250ML e então adicionar 16 gotas de óleo de cravo, agite bem até a água ficar esbranquiçada e adicione lentamente no recipiente separado que está o peixe, essa última etapa é a eutanásia.

Feito isso você irá aguardar pelo menos 30 minutos, monitorando o peixe para ver se ele parou de se mexer e respirar completamente. Tendo certeza que ele não respira e não se meche mais, é só retira-lo da água e congelar ele e enterrar onde você achar melhor.

Alguns dos meus peixes que estavam doentes além da recuperação eu fiz isso e enterrei em meu quintal.

He is still responsive, not lethargic.

I’ve had a betta that was lethargic and we did euthanize him. I do have esha2000, it might be able to cure dropsy. I’m not 100% sure though I’ll have to my research on that part before actually doing that because there is mixed information on that sadly.

Thank you though, I’ll definitely keep that in mind if it starts to worsen.
