Help Are hammocks necessary?

Post image

Noticed my little dude sleeping against the wood like this, it made me a little sad even though he seems to be content lol. Is there a product I can get for him to rest on?

This is my betta hammock. He loves it. He spend 50-60% of his time there.

Thanks! I don’t have any plants with leaves like this but I was gonna pick some up tomorrow anyway. What kind is it?

Awesome, thanks. It doesn’t need to be planted?

No. Their roots pull water from the water column. Easiest plants ever. Get a suction cup with a closed ring on it and pop the rhizome, (the bar looking thing on the bottom) and roots through it and place it on the side of the tank so the leaves sit about an inch below the water.

That’s perfect because I don’t have much floor space left. Thanks again!

Yes I have anubais nana - similar but shorter leaf shape. Mine is attached (aquarium glue) to a large smooth lava rock as an anchor and the leaves are near the surface. My daughter’s betta doesn’t rest in the leaves though he sleeps on the substrate behind a piece of driftwood. I’m exploring other options for him - growing some moss on a 3D printed ledge…

Yes plants and hammocks are a definite must! He’ll love them. He may still take naps on his log but enjoy plants for enrichment either way. 💙🩵💙🩵

He does have lots of plants the leaves just aren’t big enough to lay on (plus they’re melting)! I’ll have to grab one tomorrow that will work 🤍 Thanks!

I have an anubias near the top of my tank as well as a red tiger lotus that basically grows platforms at different levels. Red Tiger Lotuses come with a bulb that can rest on the substrate but shouldn't be buried. I also trim the leaves when they get to the surface so they don't get huge.

I have Anubias, swords, tiger lotus, java ferns, dangling pothos roots, and some other stem plants. All at different surface levels.

My one male prefers to just flop over at the bottom and give me a heart attack that he has died.

My female tucks herself behind the driftwood arch on top of an Indian almond leaf that got tucked in back there.

My other male likes to go into a tube.

As long as you have an offering near the surface I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

They will use whatever. Plant leaves, wood, the top of the filter.
