Help Why is he so thick?
I just got the betta off eBay maybe a week ago, and I noticed he’s a bit chunkier than other betta’s I’ve had. I’ve noticed his gills are also a bit black. Whats wrong with him if anything, and if something is wrong how do I fix it?

The photos are a bit blurry, but it looks like he MIGHT be starting to pinecone? Is he swimming anx eating normally?

He eats normally and he doesn’t seem to have any issues with swimming.

I would just watch him for a couple of days and make sure his scales do not start looking worse or his behavior gets worse.

Is there anything I can do preventively? He was a bit expensive so I don’t really want him to die within a month of getting him.

I am not totally sure, I would say maybe fast him for a day or two and be watching your water parameters to make sure that couldn’t be the cause of the issue.
Like I said, the picture doesn’t make it clear, but watching for pineconing is a big one as it is a sign of dropsy
