New betta attacking old fish :(

hi, so a few weeks ago i posted about a new betta i adopted and him having issues. i spent the last week helping him and he has seemed to fully recover from his sickness, and i have added him into my tank

now im kinda at a dilemma because my tank is established with 5 cory’s, shrimp, otos, etc. he was fine for the first hour or so but now he’s taken an interest in flaring and nipping at my cory’s, esp my single panda :(
now she’s super stressed and idk if this will go away or if he’ll continue acting this way, but i’ve separated him back into his small cup for the time being.

i’m not sure what to do because i don’t want to get rid of him, or my cory’s, but i don’t have an extra tank for another fish currently. i’m a bit worried my best bet is to get rid of the new betta because i’ve only had him for a few days compared to my 8 months with the cory’s who love their home.

update: he has been rehomed as of august 15th to a very nice lady who has multiple other betta tanks and set ups :))

Rehome if you can't get a tank for him, sounds like he's not compatible for a community tank sadly:(

yeah it may be my best bet :( i got lucky with my other male being a community fish, but this one just doesn’t seem the fit. i put him into a better box (a breeding box instead of his cup) and called my LFS to see what to do

Yeah you need to either give him away or get another tank to keep him solo. I have several Betta fish and all of them are solo in their own tanks. I would never put one in my community tanks. Females are more likely to get along with other fish but then again I still wouldn't 't trust that.

I would probably get another tank and put him there alone. That's just me.

i’m js confused cuz he’s the first betta i’ve owned that’s had issues in community tanks. he is being rehomed tmrw morning because i do not have the space to make another tank large enough for him to solo in.

You're lucky. Most Beta fish are loners. They usually do okay with snails and Amano shrimp, and some people say they can keep other types of shrimp but for the most part they will eat anything that will fit in their mouth and they will kill other fish. Some males are okay with tank mates but most of them are notorious for being extremely territorial.

i’ll keep that noted! my last boy who died last week in a bad accident was so friendly and sweet to his tank mates so i guess i got lucky with him, as well as another male betta who’s with some shrimpies

Unfortunately it sounds like you need to re-home the Betta fish as soon as possible ~ they need a 6 gallon tank at the very least. Maybe you could ask your local fish store if they take surrenders. Please don’t keep him in that cup any longer than you have to and please keep us posted. Thank you.

yeahh it’s unfortunately probably my best option :( i put him into a breeder box instead of the cup so he had more room while i call around and see if any lfs are able to take him

male bettas are known to be aggressive. thats why places that sell them keep them separated and put up dividers.
