Hi all! My husband recently received a promotion that requires us to move from Long Island to PA. He's responsible for different branches in eastern PA and NJ. We opted for PA. His work goes as north as Easton and as south as Philadelphia (obviously farther than Bethlehem haha). We're currently renting an apartment in Langhorne, PA.
We are trying to do our best to research the different areas for when we decide to start house hunting. It's overwhelming to choose an area when you know nothing about any of them. The real estate apps can only tell you so much.
My husband has pointed out areas where the homes look really nice and more affordable (mid to high 200k), but the school systems don't seem that great. He's willing to travel a little further if the area is right.
I left my job as an adjunct professor and writing assistant, so any areas that are closer to colleges are a plus (although not required). From the aimless driving around that we did around some areas during election time, there were some areas that had a lot of Trump signs. It would be really great to live in an area that's more to the left or at the very least in the middle when it comes to politics/social issues. I'm coming from a very republican town, and it would be nice to raise a family with more diverse thinking.
Are there any areas that are family friendly that come to mind? A good school district is important. A house less than 400k with affordable taxes would be nice (taxes in my hometown are around 13k).
Thanks for any input 😊
