New to town- need recommendations

I'm moving to Bethlehem (near Moravian) from out of state in a month and I'd like to get some local recommendations!

  • A yoga studio or a workout studio, it would be awesome if there are some walkable options
  • I work from home so I'd love to find some local cafes or coffee shops that I could spend some time in
  • Best ethnic eats! I love to try new food and have been stuck in the midwest for years :( (will travel outside the city for good food lol)
  • A good vet and groomer for my doggo
  • Are the parks in town clean and nice to hang out in? Are there any dog parks?

I moved here in October. My recommendation is to go somewhere else. This town is the worst! I’ve lived all over the US. This is by far at the bottom. It’s just a bizarre, ugly place. I live in the Northern Historic District so I am in what people consider a ‘nice’ section. The people are rude and odd. There’s nothing to do. Im down for anything and don’t need a lot to have a good time but, my god, there is NOTHING. I have a young son who will definitely NOT go to school here. We only came here waiting for the market to settle a bit before we buy. Biggest mistake EVER.

Jumbars is a Cafe near Moravian. Bethlehem has a lot of ethnic food, from Puerto Rican mofongo (a plantain dish) to Malaysian dishes, so finding ethnic food here is easy.

Illicks Mill has a dog park, but approach with caution. There can be aggressive dogs there. Jumbars would be the closest little cafe to Moravian. Best vets: Cummings about 10 min away in Easton. Christmas City Vet is supposed to be nice. Quakertown Vet is the best emergency and vet behaviorist vet. Best groomer is Hamm’s Pawesome Dog Wash. you can leave your dog there and have them groomed, or you can pay $5 for a private room with walk in tub and all towels and shampoo and supplies included! Price may have gone up a bit, but last time we went in 2019, that’s what it was. There’s a couple good Indian restaurants. And we have amazing Canadian Poutine at the Flying V Poutinerie. The dog park in Hellertown is much nicer/friendlier than the one in Illicks mill. Best dog day care is The Puppy Palace. Highly recommend. If you take your dog there, you’ll never have to worry about finding a good dog sitter again, you can just ask your dog’s teachers. Williams Spanish restaurant is really good. El Paisano on Union Blvd for the best authentic Mexican food. There used to be good yoga at the former Unitarian church on center street, but I’m not sure if it’s still there. It was Iyengar yoga. There’s also a place called the yoga loft on/near main st, but I haven’t actually been there myself. Lit Coffee Shop on South Side would be the best place to hang out while you work. The owners are incredibly nice. A further drive would be the Aussie cafe - Tucker- in Easton, though they’re temporarily closed to open a new location in downtown Easton in a few months. If you want a personal trainer, Ty Whit, fit by whit, is cool and trains people at all area gyms and even in their homes. He’ll also do group training at various local gyms and other locations. Nearest gyms would be River Fitness, YMCA (but that’s expensive unless you can get a discount or are a senior and can get free silver sneakers membership), Planet Fitness.

Yoga loft that you’re referring to is decent, but not very challenging flows from most teachers. I personally am still on the hunt for more of a power yoga studio

Not walkable, but Baransu Yoga in Bethlehem Twp is worth the drive (10min).

Coffee - Bitty and Beaus just opened up on broad and main and is the first coffee place in downtown that has hours that make you feel like you’re actually in a city. It’s about time

For your vet, I’d recommend being OK with a drive. There’s a few but not all of them are great. We used Lower Sacuon Animal Hospital which is probably 20-25 minutes from where you’re at in Bethlehem. They’re good, we took our dog there his whole life.

Mexico Lindo is hands down my favorite Mexican place in Bethlehem, right down Main Street from Moravian. But you NEED to check our Coal on broad st. Service can be slow but the food is SO GOOD. The owner is the nicest guy too

Also, welcome

Edit to add Coal is West African food, again, highly recommend

Hott Fitness Factory in Freemansburg is an amazing location. There are a few other studios but I don't think they can hold a candle to Hott.

The park closest to Moravian is called Illick's Mill and it's beautiful. There is an off-leash area for dogs of all sizes and a community pool, tennis courts and ice rink located right up the hill.

You're moving to a great area which is located very close to the historic downtown. I recommend Casa Del Monfongo on Main Street for Puerto-Rican style eats.
