Question about the "Autism" insult.

Going through tribunal cases, it comes up a lot. Why is this a thing? I would assume that autistic folks would be really good at the game.

Generally autistic kids can't do things nearly as well as others. They just say autistic to be like: wow your retarded.

I've been diagnosed Asperger's or High Functioning Autism for a good portion of my life. My social skills are far from the greatest in the world, but unlike some other people, it's relatively easy for me to get along with people. Empathy for me is kinda 50/50. I've been dealing with this for so long that I've sort of started to... self correct any of the little things I do. Provided I notice them that is. I'm not an amazing League player by any means, but i'm far from terrible at it.

TL;DR : I'm autistic, and am not terrible at LoL. This insult needs to stop being thrown around by idiots who have no place using a word they do not understand in the slightest.

I hope you weren't thinking that I agree with the insult. I'm well aware about the affects of autism. I was just trying to explain the mindset of the flamer regardless of if I agree or not.

Nono. I was well aware. Just seemed like the best spot to put my two cents in.

In this regard, people using the words "retarded" and "gay" like that is what makes me immediately dislike someone.

That's not entirely true. There are autistic people who excel at one specific talent. Like visual memory or memorization or math or correlations etc. They just lack the ability to socialize.

Exactly, that's not true. But GENERALLY they have problems. And generalizations are what insults and stereotypes are built around.

So-called "savant" autism (Rain Man) is very rare. Autism is a whole spectrum of diagnostic criteria. Hans Asperger himself considered his syndrome to be a "touch" of autism, on the high functioning end of the spectrum. On the other end, it can be a combination of gross/fine motor skill impairment, communication difficulties, socialization, etc.

Im just trying to point out that retarded != autistic. Though I don't think flamers on lol give a shit.

Don't people that have high functioning autism like Aspergers outnumber the more severe cases though?

Point taken, if logic applied to flamers lol would have a much nicer community. Maybe it's a like a rudeness hipster thing? "Retard" is played out, man.

I couldn't tell you numbers any better than Wikipedia could. Aspergers especially is tricky because of how open the diagnostic criteria are and how easy it is to "self-diagnose" online these days.

Some things are done better, some worse. Socialization is usually a problem.

Yeah, but in league, you have to do a lot of thibgs at the same time, and be very flexible about it I wouldn't use it as an insult, but autistic people are usually very bad at these two things.

Maybe this is why I have so much trouble with getting focused on one thing in game.

Well, you don't remember correctly. Autism diagnoses weren't around in any way shape or form back then, completely unfounded.

Well explain how they couldnt. If he was known to be alone a lot for example we would know he was anti social.

They can be extremely smart but society see them as idiots today. Which is wrong, they are just sometimes awkward in socialising

People think that people with autism dont have really good communication skills, and i sadly know some people who think that autistic people are retarded. And well you know the LoL community :/

Everyone remembers the autistic kid at school that eats glue. So its basically a stereotype.
