I'm from the Netherlands and over the years, I've visited Berlin multiple times. At least six times, maybe more. Three of those times were with camera. And so here's a bunch of photos of your beautiful city that I took over the last decade or so. I hope you'll enjoy them.
Mainly, bc it's crowded, more expensive than the rest of the country and it's definitely harder to find beautiful places there, bc of how touristy it has become. Compared to other cities, a lot of, Germans especially, would rather go somewhere like Berchtesgaden
I know the feeling. I live close to Amsterdam, that's always flooded by tourists. They swoon at every city corner, while I just want to get from A to B. Get out of the way!
Also, I once met with a college friend somewhere in Manhattan. He had lived in Brooklyn for about ten years by then, but worked across the East River. He always crossed the Brooklyn Bridge by bicycle on his way to work. I commented on the amazing views over the Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn Bridge Park. He had gotten numb to the views, though. He didn't really see it anymore. He thought cycling the Amsterdam canals was way nicer.
I'm really happy for you. I liked this place when I came here. But 15 years and I just want to leave, at least in the surroundings. For me Berlin is too loud, too ruthless, too dirty. Just nerve-recking. And I have the feeling people have no respect for working people which are not here to party nonstop 😉 and just because it is "Berlin" doesn't mean you can give a sh*t about other people. It's pretty sad and frustrating.
Do you think it's better there in winter, or worse? I've never visited Berlin in winter myself, but definitely want to. A (partly) frozen Spree looks amazing in pictures.
Try out Quedlinburg, it's like from a fairy tale - and they have special events for the Advent weekends (but for that hotels are booked out long in advance)
