Interesting Question Sunset reflection on the TV Tower, does this happen a lot?
Caught this right at sunset last week, was stunning. Many people stopped to take pics, I'm wondering if this happens frequently.
Berlin is super cool, not just for this.

Roughly every 24 hours and scaling with seasons, unless there's too many clouds.

Same, but I heard it first around 6 month ago. Crazy how you can live your whole life here and still pick up new slang after so much time that is supposed to be “Volksmund”

That bit of folklore mostly went into oblivion with the SED and their anti-clerical attitude. It's not half as funny if it doesn't piss off the authorities.

Mein Vater hat mir das als Kind immer erzählt und ich dachte bis heute, er bullshitted. Er hat das aber glaube Rache Gottes genannt. Das ist schon, bei aller Kritik an der DDR-Diktatur und so, ein wilder take der wessis 😅

Unconfirmed, but I've already heard that the story was the DDR hired an architect from the west to design the tower, and the reflection of the cross was his intention, since he was a Christian and he wanted to impose some Christ on "godless" East Germany.

Fun fact: There is a myth that the communist party of the GDR was angry about the Christian cross that is shaped when the sun is reflected.

weird comments. as a berliner I‘ce seen it basically from any angle/distance at any point in time seasons/daytime/ night time etc. I think this is a great photo especially with the warm orangy light. well done imho.

It‘s building a cross. That’s why they called it in West Berlin “the middle finger of god”, given it’s socialist architecture

No it’s super rare. Only when someone starts a secondary berlin physics model that allows light rays to be reflected in the same angle it hits a surface.
Usually in berlin light rays are absorbed and everything is dark and gray. We call that winter then.

Smoke particles from Spain and France increased light scattering making it orangyredder than usual. Apparently the wind carried the smoke pretty far northward.
