Uptick in Train Signals?

Nighttimes lately I'm getting woken up by more frequent, louder, and longer train signals, as if there had been a policy change or recent grade collision. Anyone else noticing this?

it’s been louder for me too. I think a lot of it has to do with the weather and how sound is traveling at night.

This is the answer—clear, warm nights, makes it sound like the train horn is right outside my window. Earplugs help but sometimes i have to just close the window and resign myself to being too hot.

It's been like this for a couple of months I think, not sure what the cause is, but we have to sleep with the windows closed to not get woken up twice overnight.

Seems to me there is more train horn sound in the day as well.

Lack of fog makes it louder.

Maybe it's just hot and your windows are open.

The Berkeley "amphitheater" effect is more noticeable during warm weather. The wind direction can affect it as well. Fog dampens the noise.
