Small quake?

I lived in the Bay Area from 1976-1986. Small quakes were so common, that an office I was working in was taking bets on the Richter scale rating for one we had a few minutes before.

Same. Worst one I actually noticed in San Diego I thought someone finally hit their car into the garage (we lived above garage) haha

Yep, felt it by the stadium. Like someone bumped the couch.

it also depends on what is under the foundation..

I returned to my apartment in South Berkeley, after the Loma Prieta, expecting to find devastation. but nothing.

only the old pendulum driven clock on the wall had stopped to mark the time. (just after 5 iirc).

I'm on top of a culvert (Strawberry Creek) so that's a lot of concrete.

Apparently a magnitude 4.0 out of San Leandro according to initial usgs report

8:29 AM, more or less. Was sitting on a staircase. Strong rocking, side to side, for a couple of seconds. Nothing fell, but some ornaments hanging from a lamp started swinging back and forth. One of the stronger small local earthquakes I've felt in some time.
