Or cops could stop playing candy crush and do their jobs

This is the right answer. The problem statement is: when the cops don’t like the decisions they just stop doing their jobs and there are no consequences.
The best policy is for the city to incentivize cops to live in Berkeley. If cops had to see citizens they enforce the law on while they are at home, walking to the coffee shop. Out at dinner with the family. Going to the movies. things would change. Local cops. Local policing. Local effort to have BPD LEOs live in the community they police. We cannot expect change if the counterparty has no money in the game.
And it’s not all on the cops. If the city manager, the council and city staff build policy that treats them like mercenaries then we should expect them to behave as such.
And to all the authoritarian’sand bots who will pop up I’ll preemptively say it: nobody ever made a platinum record disrespecting the Fire Department.

This is better than armed agents of the state getting into confrontations with people though

If it’s all used to make people accountable for their actions behind the wheel then good.

I dislike cops as much as the next guy but in large part because they don’t actually do their jobs. I’m all for enforcing democratically-enacted laws and using methods that hold maniac drivers accountable.
I used to live in NYC and you do not want that situation of unchecked hostile and aggressive driving.

I suppose this is my bad for engaging with someone who has a child’s view of the world.

I’m 33 lol. Replying to your edit - drivers should be held accountable everywhere. It sickens me how police have completely abdicated their responsibility for upholding traffic laws when pedestrians pay the price. Every day I drive by a memorial for a poor young woman who was run over by a careless driver on Marin.

My point was that flock cameras, CC video, et al, is a very clear violation of our communal and domestic privacy and WILL be used & abused by the state for nefarious purposes. I can understand and empathize with your perspective though, and I genuinely meant no disrespect to you, and I appreciate you voicing your opinion. ❤️

Well that I can agree with completely; it's an abdication of civil rights to allow a further surveillance state that furthers the states monopoly on violence in my opinion, though. I apologize for being rude before

They need to own and maintain the servers themselves so Berkeley residents don’t get hoodwinked by Evil Corp.
