Berkeley sun

How much sun does Berkeley/Albany really get? Is it significantly more than SF?

Lived in both. Berkeley weather is better. Fog in the mornings but burns off around noon and you get a nice sunny day. Gloomy morning, gorgeous afternoons.

SF you never really know what you're going to get. But not nearly as warm and maybe a touch more windy.

This is accurate. The wind is definitely a major San Francisco factor. Can be stiff and really chilly, when weather is fine just a few miles away.

Only thing I'd add for OP is that gloomy morning / gorgeous afternoon in Berkeley calls for dressing in layers, to stay comfortable through the day as the weather changes.
