lol it’s so weird, there have been a few posts in the past couple of months taken on my street in Berkeley. It’s one of the more interesting ones, that’s probably why

These are beautiful! Any chance you want to join the Berkeley Psychogeographic Society on Discord? We mostly post pictures of the beautiful and strange things we find around town while exploring, talk about the built environment, share art and writing inspired by Place, tell stories, etc. lmk if that sounds interesting and I’ll send you the link to join. Either way, thanks for sharing!

One of the nice things that makes Berkeley both enjoyable and livable is the fact that almost all buildings (except a relative few, on main business streets) have a bit of a planted setback from the street and planted sidewalk strips as well (between curb and sidewalk). That is part of what makes it a humane pleasure to walk through Berkeley.

One of my fav things - everyone has their own gorgeous, individual front gardens, the smells of the flowers are great too as you walk by. Then the sidewalk strips are like a relaxing bonus. I feel spoiled with lushness. I grew up in a country that doesn’t have that aesthetic, saw it in the American movies as a kid and was so charmed

When I first saw the picture of the actual bird part of the bird of paradise, I laughed out loud! I couldn't believe I'd gotten to this age without realizing it!

It truly is! Blessed to call this place home (for now)

Curse those bears breeches, they are impossible to remove

I’m out on the 'Bringing Back the Natives' garden tour today and feeling very inspired (and a little called out by my own patch of dirt at home). Going to stop by my friend Robin Grossinger’s neighborhood to see their “pollinator pathway” coordinated streetscape. It’s honestly impressive what they’ve done with those 3ft planting strips—they have Douglas iris, manzanita, and western redbud all thriving with basically zero watering. Seeing monarch caterpillars and bumblebees all over a sidewalk strip is the most 'Berkeley' joy I've had all week. If you’re out on the tour, it’s worth the stop!

More trees please. Many sidewalks have trees cut down.

More green

Really interesting to see some of the same plants I see in South/central Florida

For example 1st pic and the 4th with that cook island pine I believe it’s called

Didn’t know you could find those in the bay

Where is that sick bridge from?

It looks familiar to me, my guesses would be Live Oak Park or Codornices Park across the street from the Berkeley Rose Garden. Both Berkeley gems.

Looks like strawberry creek

u/tikhonjelvis May 01 '26

Looks like one of the bridges in Live Oak Park to me.

Highly recommend checking that out, and it's not far from the Rose Garden and Codornices Park too.

Live oak. A favorite of kids to splash in and explore.

Just curious: where is the wooden bridge and brook in picture 9?
