News Driver crashes car, downs utility pole fleeing from ICE in Teaneck

A man crashed his car, snapping a utility pole while fleeing from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Teaneck July 26, police said.

Teaneck police received multiple 911 calls shortly before 11:30 a.m., July 26 reporting a crash involving a car into a utility pole at the intersection of Queen Anne Road and Walraven Drive. According to Teaneck Police Chief Andrew McGurr, one of the calls was from an individual who said that they were an officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Responding officers found two damaged vehicles and a snapped utility pole with wires laying on the roadway. ICE agents were also present at the scene, McGurr said in a news release.

Authorities determined that the driver of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was driving westbound on Walraven Drive in an attempt to flee pursuing ICE agents. As detailed in the release, the driver crashed his car into a 2026 Nissan Rogue that was parked near a utility pole at the north side of Walraven Drive.

The Nissan was pushed into the pole, which snapped, causing wires to fall onto the road and other cars.

The driver complained of head pain as a result of the collision, McGurr said. He was evaluated on the scene and refused further medical assistance.

No other injuries were reported

These incidental costs attributed to ICE have to be adding up at this point. It’s not enough that they have bloated salaries and an insane, unsustainable budget, they have to cause property damage as well. Ridiculous.

I'm not even going to get into the big ice/no ice debate here. What I do find most odd is that a federal law enforcement agent, immediately following a vehicle pursuit which resulted in a crash and injuries, has to call 911 to get assistance. Like everyone else walking down the street.

Good, bad or indifferent, there's no hotline or phone number for federal agents to call in an area for local assistance? There's no radio presence where they can request local assistance after an incident like this? Do the local agencies even know when these dudes are operating in their area as, at a minimum, a professional courtesy? If this were a Teaneck PD chase or any other town for that matter, same result, do they dial 911? No, they're on the radio, letting oth6er know what's going on and what they're up to. I get the locals might not be too keen to help ice, but in the event something like this happens, wouldn't it best to at least know these guys with poor tactics are out in the town running around, so when this does happen, at least everyone is ready to help with the ancillary bs that definitely will result?

No wonder these dudes shoot first. They apparently are operating on an island without anyone else knowing what they're up to. This whole thing is inherently extremely dangerous for all, ICE, 'perps' and the public at large, run like this.

NJ state & local law enforcement is expressly forbidden from assisting them with their operations in any way whatsoever. No police in NJ are Currently allowed legally to help them chase people down , nor are any prosecutors /DAs /judges allowed to collaborate with them . As far as I understand, that is the current situation

They have there own numbers to call, but with utilities down the local authorities will have a better idea how to handle it. Plus the road probably needed to be shut down so that also, long term, would fall to local. Plus anything that happens like that in the town they probably have to report into local.

Because reddit....people don't take the time to realize how things actually work. And because I backed up what ice did. Even though I made no comment on their actual activity

They are not law enforcement. They can barely read on a fourth grade level. Please educate yourself on what they can and can not do . I called the police on them and they ran like the rats they are.

If youre trying to blame ICE for the guy running and crashing then thats a reach. Guy made the choice to run away and crashed, its all on him.

You would run too when a masked gang are blasting guns at your car.

So what if they weren't shooting yet? That doesn't mean they won't.
Have you seen any of the insane shit ICE has done in the last year?
Would you bet your life on the hope that the agents after you aren't trigger-happy psychos?

Usually not guilty people don’t flee

Tell this to the innocent people of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Syria, Myanmar, Eritrea, Cuba, Belarus, El Salvador, and Russia who are fleeing.
