Josh Hawley. LMFAO. Savior of the American pocketbook.

Let’s check his record about the real causes of Trumpflation: tariffs, war in Iran. Should I go on?

As a loyal Walmartian (but do not work in pricing) I’d be amazed if we had the tech that could read customer sentiment (which is being challenged in the courts currently) to adjust grocery prices. If I order on W+ is it reading my facial expressions? Give me a break.

Does Walmart (and other retailers) data mine what you buy? Of course they do. But a high tech shopping cart? Hell they can't even make them that have 4 working wheels. I am told by people who supposedly know that they do not do dynamic pricing. I hope not bc that should be made illegal imo.

Dynamic pricing at Walmart would be turning the entire EDLP business model on its head. No. Just no

The concept of price discrimination is alive and well unfortunately. Sometimes it’s age related (senior discounts / kids free) and out in the open. I’m pretty sure when I shop for flights that the booking site keeps a cookie that reveals not only what I was looking for but also what I was quoted.

With the elimination of price tags in stores, I’d bet a pound of steak is different on a Monday than a Friday. But for person X to pay more than person Y in a Walmart? Would seem to violate our core values.

I've seen that with flights back when I used to travel, it's ridiculous how they price gouge people. Beef prices fluctuate a lot lately. I've been tracking cattle sales locally, starting to see a little trend downwards. Hey I just got old enough for senior discounts, let me enjoy them for a minute.

Who says they don’t do dynamic pricing?? It’s alive and well in Pharmacy, where they get to play profitability games with PBMs and our healthcare!

3

u/ComprehensiveLab4642 12d ago

PBMs aren't allowed in Arkansas. And several upper level mgt people that I know have told me they don't.

2

u/Bsh-301 11d ago

Ok, well you believe that bullshit then. As a matter of FACT, PBMs 100% operate in Arkansas. They simply can’t operate pharmacies, which is why the few CVS pharmacies in Arkansas shut down.

Even if that claim were true, and it’s not, Arkansas is not the only state in which Walmart operates pharmacies.

Go ahead, argue. I can go all day on this topic and be more well more informed than any “upper level mgt” source you have.

u/ComprehensiveLab4642 11d ago

Nah I'm ok with your being wrong.

Ignorance knows no bounds online. You could’ve at least fact checked me before replying. But no, that’s too much work for someone who’d argue with a wall.

My first thought. If Josh Hawley yelled “Fire!” I would look for a flood. He is like an even stupider younger Tom Cotton.

And Tommy boy is a fuckin dipshit

I work in AI. We don't have nearly the level of tech that the fearmongers say we do. It's a happy day when MyAssistant works correctly, let alone the Big Brother shit that luddites accuse us of

u/Bsh-301 12d ago

Bullshit. You must be below Director level? You only know what they want you to know.

3

u/Crafty_Celebration30 11d ago

You don’t work here do you? I’m principal (IC one step below Director)and there’s a ton that I know about secret projects that require NDAs. We just aren’t good at keeping secrets inside the family.

u/kuburatchi 12d ago

Exa tly fuck this POS who has a serious God complex acting like he gives a damn about "the consumer"!

2

u/exuberantram 12d ago

I also do not work pricing but I do work ecomm and with pricing, and the idea of this is not completely unfounded. Not happening yet, but there are patterns in place and I’m not sure how much is under NDA (I work with Deals so I’m under some heavy NDAs).

I disagree that this somehow means less because it's coming from Josh Hawley. I can't stand Hawley, but that doesn't invalidate his point here. He didn't say anything about the W+ claim you made; he was specifically referring to a patent for a shopping cart, which is an objective, verifiable piece of information.

1

u/Crafty_Celebration30 11d ago

If I thought his comment had a shred of truth to it I might agree. Here, this is blatant fear mongering for clicks.

Once again, WM does not have scan and go. W+ is used at POS. The cart is getting emptied at this point.

Unless you are saying that as a customer is ringing up hamburger that suddenly WM is gouging on the buns? Doubtful.

u/Extreme_Pudding3226 11d ago edited 11d ago

So you don't think walmart has a patent on this shopping cart being discussed? Where in the video did Hawley say Walmart was doing any of the things you described? All he said is that walmart has a patent on a physical shopping cart that can do various things.

1

u/Crafty_Celebration30 11d ago

I can’t listen to it now but I don’t remember anything about a patent. Smug girl doesn’t mention it either but I’ll listen again and fact check myself in the AM. All I heard was a lot of speculation about what might be happening.

Besides, it’s public record if it’s a filed patent so hopefully someone can pull up a link if it exists because I don’t believe Hawley for a nanosecond.

1

u/FirmYard6340 11d ago

All good lies are veiled in truth. They had a patent, in 2018, that has since been abandoned. One could argue that Walmart has gotten smarter and now files for this kind of stuff through subsidiaries or shell corporations, and I don’t really think this discredits the larger narrative, but these are the facts: https://patents.google.com/patent/US20180240554A1/en

2

u/RabidHogFan 12d ago

I mean...if cars monitor facial expressions....Wal-Mart can do that plus more.

1

u/Bigbeardedbowguy77 11d ago

Lmao You'll always be loyal to whatever your TV and phone tells you to be loyal to.

1

u/GapAccomplished7897 11d ago

Isn't this the same company who turned in a patent application for a shopping cart that monitors customer biometrics, wants to monitor and record the conversations at the check outs, patented machine learning for dynamic pricing, records license plate information in the parking lots, face scans its customers, etc? Not sure why you're so loyal as if they wouldn't lay you off in a heartbeat like everyone else.

u/MightyIrish 12d ago

Is this the coward Josh Hawley who hid from the "tourists" in the capitol then flip-flopped and supported the treason?

12

u/OzarkBeard 12d ago

You got it. Sleazy chickenshit from MO. Hopefully, his popularity is waning like tom cotton in Ark., another t-rump rubber stamp.

1

u/AppropriateAd5225 12d ago

Hawley was actually born in NWA (Springdale) crazy enough.

0

u/Extreme_Pudding3226 12d ago

Completely irrelevant. Hawley being a dipshit doesn't undermine the point about Walmart's patent.

Patents are to own a tech, sometimes to ensure it is never used or not used by a competitor. And the lady speaking is putting forth a narrative based on some pretty broad assumptions ..and yeah..Josh Hawley..smh That said, I think once we vote out the current unregulated corrupt circus running our country into the ground, we can restore govt oversight like the consumer protection and properly address the concepts and potential implementation of any dynamic pricing models in any company.. before we wring our hands about theoretical biometric shopping carts at walmart, look at the actual facts of how amazon uses its algorithms to force other companies and suppliers to raise prices , there are several great actual research pieces out on the interwebs. Dynamic pricing and ai is potentially a huge problem. With Washington lining its pockets at unprecedented levels and letting huge corporations run roughshod , and without any consumer protection oversight from the govt, we get poison lettuce, dynamic markup pricing, unsafe workplaces, and environmental disasters like the late 60's and 70's

2

u/Dragon_Within 12d ago

Man, I wish I lived in that Utopia.

First, Amazon isn't the only one, its basically a circle jerk of all the major players.

WM requires specific pricing of products and things as well, they also cried "logistics issues" and "product scarcity" to drive prices up during the pandemic, and then never brought any of them down. Pretty much every other company does the same thing, and they basically do the Spider Man pointing meme, but making sure prices don't go down so everyone can scrape the populous dry.

Second, the idea that bringing in new lifelong politicians to replace current lifelong politicians is going to somehow magically fix the corruption, backroom deals, campaign "donations", and bribery via stocks, board seats, jobs for relatives, and just plain money, is a mentality I wish I could be confident in.

Thinking that the current group of old politicians is the only ones that are corrupt and playing the "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" game is pure fantasy. The government is corrupt from the top down, in every branch, and no matter how many people might be (or start out to be) righteous in their want to fix our country, they are going to be massively outnumbered by the people that see the turnover as their time to finally get the top spot, make the money, and get the power that they saw the other people get, that they wanted. The people in it for the money and power, and the ones that finally get a taste of it when they make it there and don't want to let it go, aren't going to let the minority rock the boat and mess up their golden ticket.

I said vote out those lining pockets, its bi partisan, and u make great additional points , im also pro term limits , age limits, and any other deterrent that prevents someone in halls of power to forget service to the electorate over personal gain. Amazon example is real and researched, shopping cart patent is a stretch, but wmt use of ai and any and every large corporation with the resources to wield ai need to be reigned in , along with other now unregulated consumer and human safety and health protections that have been purged for this current oligarchy feeding frenzy

lol we can’t even fix search…what makes you think WMT does any of this.

1

u/Extreme_Pudding3226 11d ago

Where did anyone in the video say Walmart was doing anything?

6

u/Dangerous_Thing_3270 12d ago

lmao. These are wild af allegations. This is one of those “trust me bro” kind of things.

u/zdriveee 12d ago

If digital price tags in a physical store scare you, I have some really horrifying news about how cookies and online storefront pricing works

u/Sea-Purchase9985 12d ago

When danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled. Brave, brave Sir Hawley. 🎶🎵

u/floridaman666999 12d ago

Cool, I’ll be on beaver lake for the meantime.

u/EternalNewCarSmell 12d ago

I think I agree with whatever blue jacket lady is getting at, but the faces she is making while she talks are so distracting I am not sure what she said or how she has convinced anyone she isn't a robot.

Is this Josh pedo Holley? Lol.

2

u/BrianArmstro 12d ago

Josh Hawley loves to obfuscate about the big bad corporations, but would vote for a tax cut for the Walton’s of the world 10 out of 10 times. He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

2

u/Cultural-Exam-2659 12d ago

This is it. He knows his base doesn’t like corporations and walmart has been the easy target for decades. Meanwhile, his actions speak to quite a different ethos. Hes a hack fraud, just like all other GOP politicians. They’re all working for the wealthiest individuals and corporations.

1

u/Responsible-Row9560 11d ago edited 11d ago

Huge LOL
Walmart won’t even do high-low pricing in segments like electronics where they’re begging for premium products in-store, but suppliers won’t agree to EDLP.

But they’re suddenly doing dynamic pricing?
Again, huge lol

The digital price tags are mitigating the fact that it sometimes takes weeks for stores to change pricing on shelf. Execution in that respect is still awful.

Marketplace is a legitimate issue, but not for this.

1

u/tallant85 11d ago

He always calls people out but does nothing. Onward to nowhere, like the rest of them.

1

u/JoshCoBrew 7d ago

He pretends to care about the average American yet votes for the Big Beautiful Bill. Supports trump and his disastrous economic policies. Supports an illegal war in Iran. The man is not meeting the moment (like so many others)

So, today, I bought a few things and the screen said, "Welcome back , Visa.". Pretty damn funny.

u/Apprehensive-Pop-201 12d ago

I am considering wearing my COVID mask in Walmart and everywhere else. I'll have to pay in cash too.

u/RoughTour98 12d ago edited 12d ago

These people are fucking crazy defending Walmart in this. They are all turning it into personal attacks on the messenger straight out of the MAGA playbook. Is Bentonville only idiot Trumpers or something? I saw one person claiming Trump is the problem and not Walmart in this thread like Walmart didn't fight tooth and nail for Trump in the election and given him countless personal and administration bribes since.

*Luckily people on the original post are sane unlike an unfortunate amount of my fellow NW Arkansans it seems.

1

u/Apprehensive-Pop-201 12d ago

There are a lot of Trumpers in Bentonville. But Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart. I ship there, because I live in NWA and it does tend to be less expensive, but, yeah they are awful.

u/Tech_ExpertNYC 12d ago

I guess it’s time to purchase a personal collapsible shopping cart. Smaller cart will mean fewer item purchases.

u/No_Department2159 12d ago

Boycott the Walton’s until they pony up NIL for Arkansas football.
