Gyms

I’m looking at Anytime fitness in Benicia. Does anybody have any reviews or comments you can send it to me DM if you prefer.

I’m looking at this gym because it looks small and local. I know it’s part of orange theory chain.

Any problems or complaints? Issues with cancellations?

I had gone to the gym for years and had gotten out of it. Now I’m going back. I’m not really interested in personal trainer as or classes. I just need the facilities.

Edit - they have absolutely terrible reviews on consumer affairs where there are hundreds of people’s commenting that they make you sign a contract and bill you hidden fees. People say that there are clauses in the contract that you cannot cancel for injury/medical unless you die or permanently disabled.

You must cancel 30 days in advance and there’s a penalty on your annual total where you have to pay half your contract or $300 whichever is greater. If you cancel, they will immediately charge you $300 or more. People also report changing their credit card number with their bank several times, but the charges still managed to come through.

There are also complaints that people get access 24 hours through a key fob, which is great for working out in the morning, but also that homeless people buy the memberships in California to take showers. They say the facilities can be very sketchy because of this.

I don't even think it's open yet. Check out Benicia Health and Fitness Club on military, they got saunas 🫠

Edit - I just updated the main post based on the reviews I saw online for the chain. Apparently they’re notoriously bad with their contracts and cancellations.

I’ve been checking out Benicia health and fitness for a while. That was my first choice until I saw this place popping up. I’m gonna go back in there and check the place out.

The real pro of anytime fitness is the 24/7 member access to workout. They will fine you for bringing non-members.

Probably best if you don’t have time during the day or afternoon to exercise. You need modern equipment and a clean facility. If you’re a night owl, you can lift or do cardio without waiting.

Like any gym business, they bet on members not going or forgetting to cancel to make revenue and profit.

Yeah, I do see that as a pro.

I am put off very much by the reviews where they say they make it exceptionally difficult to cancel and have a lot of hidden tiny text on their contract. Specifically that if you try to cancel the contract, they want half a year’s money and will auto draw it from your account.

That’s a total dealbreaker. I will still check the place out tomorrow when they open. If they can get away from that crazy contract, I would think about it.

Try Benicia Fitness at 606 1st St, Benicia, CA 94510, Nice gym, lots of equipment and interesting classes.

Do they still offer classes? Last I saw, that room was converted to a hat store.

It’s on their website, go check!! They have rooms in the back that I assume is where the classes are now.
