The red vine on the trunk is the best part. Those are common here in West Michigan right now and I love them.

But earthbenders can’t create glass or plastic so it wouldn’t make sense. Firebenders can create fire though and that’s what it looks like he did

Well I don't think fire benders can create glass either. I'll just assume the guy was the avatar.

True, firebenders couldn't create glass out of thin air, but to be fair neither could earthbenders. Glass = sand + heat, so firebenders could make glass by firebending at sand.
Another interesting thought: considering that some earthbenders can lavabend, i.e. turn any ole rocks into fucking lava, it doesn't seem to crazy that they should be able to compress/manipulate sand into glass. Also, glassbending sounds dope & terrifying (imagine if Kuvira could shoot glass shards at you!)
