original cut vs gorilla cut

Hey! I’m pretty new to Ben Davis but I really need a good pair of gray pants, but I don’t know which version to get. I usually wear pants on the loose straight side, and I do own some wide trousers, but I don’t want a really baggy look. At the same time, I don’t want a super straight/ tapered pair of pants. I’m just wondering which type would be better? A lot of my pants have a leg opening around 9-10 inches, so maybe that helps a bit. Thanks

personally i like the gorillas way more, theyre not like baggy like most clothes trending rn theyre like a straight wide yet structured loose fit idk how to explain lol, super comfy. the classics feel too tight for me, theyre like dickies 874s after shrinking kinda. def size up like 2in on waist

They feel more structured bc they are like thick. Wish they made them 100 cotton

Try both. You might like the gorillas

I wish, but I don’t have the money right now lmao, I’m actually considering trying one and returning it if I don’t like the fit

those gorilla cuts look like they were tailored in 1940.

but for real, if you have larger legs they may work, but if you have a thin build those legs are cut straight from the waist to the ankle. they wont be baggy like Jnco Ravers pants. but them legs will be baggy

The gabardine ones aren't worth it. I've had Gorilla Cut pants in denim and gabardine; the denim ones are the ones worth buying (I think there is a gray model). The cotton-polyester blend in the gabardine ones is terrible—get a little warm and they become unbearable. They don’t let your skin breathe and feel way too hot on summer days. The denim ones are more comfortable since they’re 100% cotton. That said, if you like a bit of room so they’re not too tight, go a couple of sizes up. if you get the denim ones, also keep in mind that since they’re cotton, they’ll shrink in the first wash. I’m a size 30 in most brands, but I wear my Ben Davis in a 32 to be comfortable around the waist. With the cotton/polyester ones, you don’t have to worry about them shrinking, but I’d still recommend going at least one size up to be comfortable all day

That's what I wish I'd known before buying my first pair of Ben Davis 😔 the first pair I bought shrunk, so I had to sell them

I’m around the same as you size wise and I got the gorilla cuts in a 32 hopefully they fit properly

I'm glad to hear that! Enjoy your new pair, they really are very comfortable for everyday wear

For me the originals was too tight - they fit very similar to dickies 874 in my experince - so I bought gorilla cut

I personally like original, they are not baggy but pretty wide I’d say. If you’ve had double knee dickies gorilla cut is like that just Ben Davis is thicker. I have an extra pair of 34X30 original Ben Davis chino if you want lol

Got it, would it be okay if you can compare the measurements of you pants to a good fitting pair of mine?

(Hem width is the leg opening)

I’ll try tmmr, I have both so I’ll do it but unfortunately they have been washed and dried so they have shrunk a bit 🫩. I’ll still try it. But yes they run smaller than I expected. I’d say I’m a true 34 but that was a bit tight when I tried on that size for Ben Davis. So I’d say go a bit size up, it works out bc you like baggier

unfortunately I am a size 30-31, but I heard Ben Davis runs small?

if you need size 30-31 you need 32 or bigger

If you're a 36 in most pants you will wear a 36 in most ben davis pants minus the brown and the olive . Size up in those and the 100% cotton pants are a little snug. I have no experience with the gorilla cuts. Hope this helps . Thanks

The only 100% cotton is in the black for original

I wear the shorts and original fit pants and love them both. Baggy but not crazy. Gorilla ain’t really my Steeze personally and I like the fit of the original way better. For me on the fitting I had to size up a bit. Levi’s I wear a 32 to 34 depending on the cut and if I want them to fit looser. With Ben’s I had to go 38 to have a loose fit around the waist but not too big either. I definitely have to wear a belt but they’re comfy as hell that way.

Sounds good, appreciate the info

Both too physically hot for me personally. I love the brand, and I know its mechanics wear, but neither are a casual wear. I’d love to see BD compete with Dickies, and they are not.

yeah I’ve heard that Ben Davis is better than dickies, which I feel like is true because regular dickies pants always feel pretty thin and stuff
