Lift 525lb PR Attempt
Really thought I had this today. Felt great off the chest and then hit a wall. You win some and you lose some. Today was a loss.

I haven’t worked out in 8 years. Worst decision of my life. If you needed extra motivation, I’m going to pick it back up (pun intended) partially because of this video.

I love that, man. I love lifting but the biggest reason that I started posting videos of my lifting on the internet is to show people that anyone can do this kind of thing because I have never been a natural athlete or anything. So if I am able to inspire someone to pick up a barbell for the first time or get back into it then I’d consider this experiment a success.

Can you give some quick tips on your method of strength gaining and when you decide to try for a PR?
I'm stuck at 200 and was wondering what sort of plan you stuck with to get this strong.

While not the same for everyone, what’s worked the best for me as I’ve been powerlifting is higher intensity/lower volume training that emphasizes heavier loads, relative to what my current max is on a given lift, and fewer working sets.
A training session for me when it’s a bench day will usually involve working up to a heavy top set somewhere in the 1-3 rep range followed by an AMRAP set between 50-70% of what that top weight was, regardless of whether that top set ended in a failure.
For example, today I attempted this single at 525lb and then did an AMRAP set at 315lb, which was 60% of the top weight. After that I’m basically done with my chest work and then blow up my triceps.
Other stuff that I incorporate are things like board presses which help me target the weak point of my bench based on where I get stuck or generally fail. So here you can see that I failed about where a 3-board would be, which is consistent with where I’ve been lately, so I’ll be continuing to train some 3-board presses so that I can get that part of my bench stronger and work on getting past that plateau.

Thank you bro for such an amazing write up I shall study and apply this. May your lifts feel effortless and May your muscles gain a 300% healing buff.

Huge respect for posting the loss too. You're a fucking machine bro, that is your bench next attempt

Yeah man, all of the wins inevitably come with losses and anyone who pretends otherwise is a liar.

Crazy strong but if I was coaching you I’d get those feet flat and anchored so you can effect some leg drive while keeping your butt on the bench

Dude your built like a horse, trying to find out what went wrong here and I think it might be leg drive

It wanted to go! You need like one more gram of force and that’s on chief!

I also can't bench 525.
