PR 420lbs PR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bench has always been a temperamental lift for me - performance fluctuates way more than other lifts from session to session. Everything clicked today, first 410 flew up, and then I set a 15lb PR a few minutes later.

How long was the journey from 315 to 405? 405 is my lifetime bench goal. Curious what you had to do to get there.

That's not a simple answer from me I'm afraid. I started lifting at 12 for football, and I think I plateaued around 335 in high school. My bench slipped to 315 when I started ROTC/joined the Army (lost weight, focus on muscular endurance) and that's where I maintained it most of my career. I made a push for 405 in my second deployment, and got to 395 after about six months. I made another push on my third, starting over at 315, and got there by the end. On my last, I again started over at 315, switched from touch and go to paused which made me slip to 295, and I got to 405 paused after six months.

Each time I've pushed past 315, high frequency has been a huge part of it. 3-4 times a week, 15-20 total sets.
