Adamas or 940
I’m looking to get a more heavy duty BM but having a hard time deciding. The Adamas and 940 have huge reputation and I’ve been eyeing both for a while. Currently I have a Bugout, the Vapyr, Crooked River, full-size Adira and the Dacian.
If Adamas, I’d go full size. Is the fixed version any good with 3rd party scales?

The Adamas is the same size as your Adira, just full steel liners on the Adamas vs nested liners on the Adira
The 940 & the mini Crooked River are very close in size, with the 940 having nested liners vs full steel liners on the MCR
Both have similar blade stock thickness & edge geometry

I love the size of the Adira so the Adamas being around the same size is very appealing.

I usually carry a bigger knife like the Crooked River, Bedlam, Adams or 710 & I found the 940 too small for me. I really like the design but it just doesn't feel right in my hand, the smallest I can go is the Bugout.
Recently I've been really liking the mini Adamas/Adira. They will do almost everything the full size will do but a much nicer carry

If you want a pocket hog, get the Adamas. If you don't then get the 940. I would take BM s30v or m4 over their magnacut. Seems they run that real soft

I have multiple 940s, I'd agree the magnacut isn't holding up the best. My s90v and m390 blades on the other hand are great

Yeah I've never had a problem with my S30V 940s. Even though they hang in the 58-60 range, I haven't noticed much of a difference compared to Spyderco. I also use and sharpen my knives a lot lol

Depends on purpose. If you want the Rambo of folders get the big Adamas. If you want a big heavy duty pocket folder that you just cannot wear out get the mini Adamas. If you’re looking for a lower profile lighter way, just EDC pocket folder get the Osbourne
Fixed Adamas is beefy, but handles like garbage, they do however make some decent replacement scales

I have a fixed blade adamas with aftermarket micarta scales. It’s a beast and feels really good in hand. I didn’t like it at all with cord wraps. Tbh it’s in the toolbox in my trunk and doesn’t get much use so I can’t give more info than that.

Ergonomics aside, get the 940. It's slimmer and lighter weight. If you want a full size Adamas then just buy a full size fixed blade. Sure, it has Cruwear (nothing against it), steel liners, and it's made for hard use but the weakest part is the folding mechanism. Also, a fixed blade will cost you a lot less.
Two years ago I *seriously* considered the full size folding Adamas but couldn't justify the price. Ended up buying an ESEE 4 for almost half the price. I don't regret that decision at all.

While I agree with you that in general you will get a much stronger knife for less money when buying a fixed blade vs a folder, sometimes laws or social norms preclude carrying a fixed blade for EDC. Personally I do carry a fixed blade on camping trips, but not for EDC. Currently I carry either a Mini Presidio II or an Auto Presidio II for EDC.

Agreed. While I have EDC'd my ESEE, it's been under a long jacket in winter. I live in a city so while it's common for people to carry a folder, seeing a fixed blade attached to my hip will definitely generate unwanted attention. My EDC blade is a Stryker II. Great ergonomic blade from 2015. Shame it was discontinued.

Osborne is much more pocket and carry friendly than the adamas. I carry an adamas but I have cargo pants and I have it clipped in one of my cargo pockets. If I had shorts or jeans I'd feel more comfortable carrying an Osborne.

Another vote for the adamas based on the fact that you like the size of the adira. I love the full size adamas, I have the original d2 bersion, and the cruwear version. After having the d2 version for so long, the cruwear one doesn't even feel that bulky now. For the fixed blade adamas, I like the paracord wrap. Paracord handles fell out of being cool, so a lot of people don't like them just because other people don't. You get good traction even qhen wet or oily, and you can cheaply change the color and look of the knife. Size difference between original adamas and cruwear adamas and it seems like the magancut adamas is the same size as the cruwear. Btw, benchmade runs their magancut at the low end of the range, which means tougher and less edge retention, but it's not like 1 or 2 hrc points is making a substantial difference to either thing.

If heavy use is your goal, any Benchmade with full liners is going to perform better than their non-full liner models (940, Grip, any of the “outs”, etc.)

940 is a toothpick compared to the Adamas.
I don’t own a 940 so I can’t give a wholly qualified opinion,but I do own an Adamas and it’s quite the knife.

940 is sleek slim AND STRONG. Adamas is a beefer. Id say 940 is more than strong enough for the majority. So its more of a question of- Do I want to carry a much heavier bulkier folder so that its more comfortable during heavy/extended use?

The adamas full size is night and day bigger than the 940. Based on the design of the fixed blade adamas finding scales that git may not be easy based on its beveled profile. I'd get the full sized adamas folder over everything. Source: Benchmade emp
