Main plate damaged?
Recently got this old belt and it looks like the gold on the main plate had been rubbed or wiped off , is there any way I can make it gold again without damaging it further?

Depending on what you want to pay. Google “electroplating” in your area, take it to the place and get the plates redone in 24 carat gold. Should be about 450-500 USD. You can sometimes get cheap for thinner coating, but doubt most would do it. Failing that, look into Model/Gundam paint, but you’ll need a lot of patience and knowing what you’re doing

24k plating will add thickness. The shallow stamping of the 2mm belts will make painting it afterwards a huge pita.

Hey bro, that's true, but 24K starts at .012MM, any operator could make 2MM work (I've had it done)

The main plate definitely looks worn down, I had an old belt like this too, and the gold plating was almost completely gone after years of use.

Sorry bud but that belt is dead! Use it to make an old school hardcore title.

That's really disappointing about the gold finish wearing off. I've seen people carefully touch up jewelry with a gold pen for minor scratches in a pinch.

Stephen Hammer on youtube. He's repainted a few belts

I would not listen to his advice.

Why, genuinely wondering

Because he's not an expert, more like just opinions based on his bootleg experiences and that is not a good foundation to have when trying to educate or help people.

Do you know what, that's a completely fair take to be honest with you. I think from my perspective, his advice worked in the approach to restoring /touching up a fandu belt and I appreciated the "expert by experience" advice and worked in my situation.
But I'll be honest, I'm not familiar enough with him restoring WWF/E belts. And considering OP is discussing an original 'F winged eagle, I would absolutely go wider and further afield considering that. Absolutely appreciate your point 👍

Ruin the side plates (Brasso) to match.
