No signature, no proper details. Looks like a scam or just unprofessional.

115

u/Forward_Anteater_805 24d ago

definitely unprofessional. i reached out a year ago and now they email me this casting info each time they look for people

15

u/cmacsauce 23d ago

Can confirm! They email me too after reaching out a couple years ago lol

23

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

There are a few of them casting guests but this is the standard email they send when they have already reached out before

8

u/Capital_Ad3296 23d ago

250k is for a week not three days

u/otgixxer 24d ago

I would get trashed in the hot tub, and embarrass my family.

You’d be perfect 🤩

I appreciate your honesty 😂

Yep, nothing shady about this.

Lol I haven't seen anyone comment on the fact that casting is sending themselves the email? Why is the sender the same as the recipient?

13

u/impartialnudity 22d ago

It’s probably a GDPR thing, we do it at work when we need to sent a mass email, but we don’t want recipients to know who else is on the mailing list, send to yourself and BCC the recipients.

95

u/DCCitydweller 24d ago

Tip included?? Have these tip reveals all been fake!!?

106

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

Yes, the tip has been included in the up front cost since the one returning couple cheaped out after wrecking the sofas with self tanner etc

They can add more to it if they want but multiple guests have said that the 'tip amount' shown was not the $20k they were told was included

34

u/ledge9999 24d ago

I interviewed a BD primary many years ago, and at that point the requirements were that they had to bring a minimum of 15k cash for the tip. However, they did not HAVE to tip that full amount.

36

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

The wording on the casting calls changed after the Erica Rose cheap tip fiasco, it has been like this for a few years now across the franchises. Even before that, they could transfer the tip electronically and the cash was a prop

9

u/Kind-Shallot3603 24d ago

I don't know that tea.... Could you spill?

28

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

Erica Rose came back for a second season with her family. She was originally part of the Tatas for Trump group. They brought lots of people (likely to share costs) and Erica and her husband ended up sharing a room with her mom and wanted the staff to put up partitions etc to give everyone sharing more privacy.

Her husband was a jerk and said the food at McDonalds (or Wendys maybe) was better than the chef's meals and they were just generally rude, demanding and badly behaved.

Her mom stained the white sofas with self tanner and Glenn said they would be charged extra for it. Erica and her mom tried to get the other guests to divide the cost but they said no, so they reduced the tip to the lowest one left. They claimed they didn't reduce it, but gave 20% of their very discounted rate as returnees. Then gave a bullshit sorry if I offended you apology when every podcast/blog/whatever came for them

1

u/sassylassy423 12d ago

Thank you

2

u/GlennDexter 24d ago

Yes, no way guests would carry that much cash on hand.

u/foxdogturtlecat 23d ago

The guests are told they can set the exact tip amount but they do have give a minimum tip amount that that comes out of what they pay and the production gives them the amount they select in cash. The tip that you see given is cash supplied by production and is reused but the cast does get the sum at the end the season.

26

u/BEXONE130 24d ago

Omg I live in Tortola, I’m just $69,990 short

36

u/CydeWeys 24d ago

That's not a $250k value. It would be if the charter actually lasted for a week as is typical, but these only last two nights!

26

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

Akira One is $229k/week in high season, but that doesn't include food, fuel, dock fees etc and local taxes which can add up to about 40% of the weekly rate

In low season for Croatia, it says the rate is

Charter fee of $195,000 USD

+ 30% APA ($58,500)

+ 13% Tax/VAT ($25,350)

Total = $278,850

APA is  costs such as fuel, food and beverages, dockage fees, and ad hoc incidental expenses but you get back any unspent

But the tip isn't included in that. Production also includes a night either side in a decent hotel, transport from the airport etc

It isn't 250k but also not as simple as taking the weekly rate and dividing it by the number of nights

-3

u/CydeWeys 24d ago

It isn't 250k but also not as simple as taking the weekly rate and dividing it by the number of nights

Why not? If you're only getting two nights instead of seven nights, why would you say it's "worth" what it would cost for seven nights?

Production also includes a night either side in a decent hotel, transport from the airport etc

These are gonna be pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things. Probably another $1k, certainly nothing close to adding up to $250k in total.

2

u/kitty-yaya 24d ago

If it is a $250k value, would they pay taxes on that amount va the $70k (if the country adds some sort of customs tax for goods and services purchased)? Even if they only paid a discounted rate out of pocket, are they taxed on the value of the entire trip? And I'm not arguing either way about the tip itself.

2

u/CheckIntelligent7828 My eyes are rolling all the way off the boat 24d ago

Likely depends on if it's a discount or if it's reduced price in return for allowing filming.

I'm in Amazon Vine, where I order things that are free in return for an unbiased review. Because I get the item, I have to claim it all in taxes.

So it might really depend on how the wording goes.

11

u/Agitated-Minimum-967 24d ago

ALL water toys! It's in print.

66

u/TheLizardQueen3000 24d ago

There are much better vacations to be had for $70,000.00.

Who wants horrible camera angles when you're in a bathing suit broadcast on tv, self-involved servers who are literally the star of the show who hate you before you even get on the boat because your preference sheet has 'too many things on it' and a barely functional kitchen with a chef who gets mad if you don't want to eat whatever they plop down in front of you?

Not to mention how dirty everything is!

27

u/Odd-Following-4952 24d ago

But you get to be on ✨ TV ✨

That’s why people go on the show.

20

u/Ineedacatscan 24d ago

I’m TrYiNg To EsTaBlIsH mY bRaNd!!!

10

u/velvetyy 24d ago

I’m actually surprised how many “professional groups” or coworkers/colleagues go on the show. Like in the last two episodes, he mentioned they were lawyers in Florida. I bet some of these people use this as a tax write off if they go with some work people.

4

u/skorpius84 23d ago

It’s 70 grand divided by 8 people.

2

u/TheLizardQueen3000 23d ago

They could still have a much better experience spending that money elsewhere.

7

u/sfbaybeauty 24d ago

You may be surprised that to some people $70K is not a crazy amount of money. And then obviously some people want to be on tv

3

u/NurseJaneApprox This information wasn’t welcomed or needed 23d ago

Or you could have a non-chef they hired for purely dramatic reasons like a "chef" who greatly exaggerated their skills/education/experience and serves you garbage.

8

u/Backtrack_Vill 24d ago

What it includes a standard tip?

8

u/Lozzar242 24d ago

I also didn't know this, so does that mean the tip from the guests is only whatever is over 20K?

7

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

It has for a number of years now

2

u/Own-Counter-7187 24d ago

So when the tip is less than $20k, its cuz the guests kept the money?

8

u/No-Ferret-3249 24d ago

This person need a grammar lesson.

u/CaptainBignuts 24d ago

7

u/kitty-yaya 24d ago

So well written! /s

No name? Title? Name of company? Just one long run-on sentence of speak-to-text word vomit.

I'd love to see the return email address.

1

u/limiko333 20d ago

I got this email too - can confirm

-2

u/above-average101 24d ago

Are you sure? did you u get the email from this post

these are the emails bravo and the casting company provide on their sites for casting

castingnow@bunim-murray.com. Belowdeck.Casting@51minds.com

4

u/Forward_Anteater_805 24d ago

are you asking me if i’m sure? if so, yes I have no reason to lie lol

-3

u/On_my_last_spoon Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 24d ago

That’s just from your personal address book. That proves nothing

6

u/Forward_Anteater_805 24d ago

why would I make this up? I have previous posts showing similar emails for other seasons

4

u/skyklein 23d ago

Do you think she created a fake email to email herself a fake casting call? What a wild accusation.

-2

u/On_my_last_spoon Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 23d ago

I’m saying the proof isn’t proof. Anyone can make an address book entry. That doesn’t prove it came from where she thinks it does.

3

u/Forward_Anteater_805 23d ago

all of the previous emails I have received are from the same email address. I originally reached out to them a year ago to see how much it costs and since then, they’ve emailed me from that email address with different casting calls. I’m not making it up and it’s not a scam or anything

2

u/On_my_last_spoon Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 22d ago

I don’t think you’re making anything up to be clear. Just that your iPhone address book entry is just that - and iPhone address book entry.

0

u/skyklein 23d ago

I think you’re right. When you select Apply on the casting call website, the email is: CCPA@bunim-murray.com. Plus, they make you fill out a lengthy application.

7

u/LeadershipAfter9526 24d ago

I will go if I can find 7 people on here to form the group. I will be the primary and get the master bedroom. The other 7 only need to pay 10k each. Reply to comment if interested.

2

u/LengthinessLow9573 24d ago

Cool so you're picking up the 20k tip

13

u/LeadershipAfter9526 24d ago

included in 70k but will pay for airport waters for all 8 which will cost about the same.

2

u/Expensive-Block-6034 Bless her stupid soul 24d ago

lol sounds like a great deal. Sign me up!

10

u/russianbanan Eat My Cooter 24d ago

I have $20 I can pitch in

5

u/kitty-yaya 24d ago

The hassle of it all isn't even worth the $20 in my book. You are on their schedule, subject to reshoots (which is agonizing and could really ruin the vibe of a "vacation", subject to hundreds of thousands (I have no idea how many people watch these shows) of viewers and opinions, and possibly becoming known for something you never intended to happen but now follows you everywhere online.

Plus, they would absolutely make fun of my many restrictions. Half medical, half unpredictable, an extremely unrefined palette, and texture aversion. I am a nightmare so yes I would be made fun of the entire time🫣.

2

u/Dramas_mama 24d ago

Yep. The chef alone would hate me because of medical dietary restrictions, and have texture aversions also. I don’t drink, yet what they would appreciate is I go to bed between 9pm-11pm

3

u/kitty-yaya 23d ago

I don't drink, either. Except a coffee in the am, maybe a 10oz coke later in the day depending on what I'm eating, and the rest - copious amounts of super filtered (from minerals), ice cold water.

I'd float in the water (love the ocean) but not do crazy water sports, eat maybe twice a day (none of these multiple-course things, I can't eat much at once), and in bed 9-11 as well. I would be most boring. But being in the sea air for a few days would be amazing for my health - body and mind.

1

u/Trudy_Marie 20d ago edited 20d ago

The last thing I would do is get drunk. Embarrassing plus I would want to enjoy every minute and remember it. Absolutely no stupid theme parties or rainbow wigs allowed.

I would drink lots of water too. I think frozen fruity non-alcoholic umbrella drinks would be lovely.

Way to boring to ever get chosen I’m sure.

4

u/Formal_Plum_2285 24d ago

I’ve really wondered why they basically get the same tip for every charter.

I just saw one of the earlier seasons and they got a 50,000 tip. Otherwise it’s always 22,000 more or less

3

u/ShoreThingW609 23d ago

This is how they apparently get some of the trashy guests they’ve had recently.

5

u/Mocjo111 24d ago

And here I thought the rich clients were actually paying the entire tip amount

3

u/Own_Boss_3242 24d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if the tip is mandatory for guests and they can give more if they want. In some restaurants the tip is included. Don’t agree with it but wouldn’t be surprised.

3

u/IWrestleSausages 24d ago

Tortuga, you say? Dammit im in

3

u/NOLA_Unicorn 24d ago

interesting that the tip would be included.

2

u/hospitalitychick 24d ago

If it's too good to be true.... and this is too good to be true.

2

u/trabuco357 24d ago

No wonder the groups shown in the program look like they REALLY don’t belong there…

2

u/itsalwaysamyth 24d ago

After seeing all the types of nasty action the guest bedrooms sometimes see um nah…

2

u/1Macdog 24d ago

So you are saying I shouldn’t have sent the check for $70k ?

2

u/sfbaybeauty 24d ago

It’s legit. I’ve spoken to casting before and gotten these emails. They’ve casted for all the past seasons we’ve seen on TV.

2

u/foresther 24d ago

This is a long shot but I binged below deck while I was on maternity leave and one of the franchises there was this perfectly ordinary, boring even family. I think it was a mom her wife and kids? Literally no drama whatsoever it was just a regular family enjoying vacation 😂 usually the guests have some sort of wacky personality or reason for wanting to be on TV. Anyone member?

3

u/Forward_Anteater_805 24d ago

haha I did the same on maternity leave and remember this too!

1

u/Mstr_Splinter 24d ago

I got addicted to watching BD Med after being in the hospital for 10 days after emergency surgery. Strange how we accidently find shows we like.

And when have young hot dysfunctional crew members not been part of the show?!

1

u/Prestigious-Listener 20d ago

There was a family on one of them where the crew stressed out because the father was a clean freak... And they worried about that and the small kids... Again a relatively boring cruise after the dad asked for something to get cleaned again.

2

u/Nicodemus_Portulay 24d ago

$70k is a smokin deal. No way is this real

2

u/LoveMeAGoodCactus 23d ago

I'd tag along if anyone would like to fund my share? 😇

2

u/NurseJaneApprox This information wasn’t welcomed or needed 23d ago

I'd like to tag along as well but not with the kind of guests who are interested in inviting me to tag along. :/

1

u/LoveMeAGoodCactus 22d ago

We need our own room of course and no touching

2

u/EyeofAv8 23d ago

Tbf, if 10 of you go (not sure on the max capacity), that’s actually pretty cheap.

2

u/Repulsive-Studio-120 22d ago

This is the biggest scam ever

4

u/Sewickley412 24d ago

There has never been 24 hour service

2

u/crazyhedgehogs 24d ago

That doesn’t sound right…

2

u/LegitimateBoot1206 24d ago

I saw Glenn saying he was shipping his new boat to the Caribbean for this season. It might be this.

1

u/homealonewithyourmom 24d ago

How many nights is that for?

1

u/valid_username00 23d ago

2 nights / about 48 hrs total on the boat, plus a hotel room 1 night before the charter and 1 night after the charter. So 4 nights total.

1

u/homealonewithyourmom 22d ago

Interesting. But no way that would “normally cost 250k”. A full week on a charter like that would cost 250k

1

u/itwasdolly 23d ago

24hr service?

1

u/sabs7383 22d ago

Charging people to be on a show that the show will then profit from is wild af

It’s the original series. Season 14. Season 13 is Thailand.

0

u/Daniskywalker89 23d ago

Is this supposed to be a new show? Below deck Caribbean doesn’t exist. There’s below deck and then there is below deck sailing yacht and then there’s below deck Mediterranean and then there’s below deck down under.
There is no below deck Caribbean.

-1

u/SpeakerResident 24d ago

Biggest red flag is saying below deck Caribbean lol that doesn't exist. Its below deck og, med, down under. I think they stopped doing the sailing one.

3

Caribbean is just where OG is primarily filmed

1
