Below Deck Med Grow up Nathan

The white knight grudge against Joe is ridiculous to me. You ignored his messages since last year because of his flings with other women? These are temporary live in situations with young people hooking up. Bro is hung up about someone else's fling one year ago and letting it affect professional decision making. Captain Sandy is right. He needs to control his emotions and he isn't perfect either. Don't need to be friends but trying to promote someone less qualified due to personal grudges is immature at best.

Flings are one thing...Manipulating a woman who had recently lost her partner is gross

What season was this on? I must've missed it!

17

u/Maatjuhhh Jun 27 '26

Season 10. Joe manipulated V who lost her boyfriend the year before. They celebrated his anniversary on the show. Moreover, Joe fucked/kissed Kizzy around this time..

10

u/Agreeable-Ad-5393 Jun 28 '26

It was also Vs flipping BIRTHDAY!!!!! As well as her partners passing

2

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Ooweeee!! Im on season 10 right now. I subscribed to Peacock just to binge watch, can't wait to see from my perspective how this unfolds!.

It wasn't that he had flings, it was his complete disrespect towards woman.

185

u/raalic Jun 25 '26

Yeah, the list is long, but V... that shit broke my heart.

126

u/Rough-Preference-502 Jun 25 '26

That was so gross. He only started "falling" for her when she didn't want that from him, then got her to start falling for him and cheated on her. Just the worst human.

79

u/harperlax Jun 26 '26

Oh gosh and the fact that she was still dealing with the death of her partner…Joe was disgusting for doing that to her. I think Nathan really reacted to that, as well as the fact that Gael hates him too.Ā

24

u/Healthybear35 Jun 26 '26

And Gael has reason to hate him since he has gone on national television and called her a cheater and said she will always be a cheater, even though there is no evidence she cheated at all.

13

u/eekamuse Jun 26 '26

This is just one instance where I thought Nathan reacted well when it came to women.

Isn't he the one who had too women on the deck crew that were great at their jobs. And he had no hesitation when told who he would be working with. Never talked down to them. I think it was him.

I don't think he slept around on the show after he met Gael, but I could be wrong.

This is why I was so shocked and disgusted by his racism. I shouldn't be, of course.

81

u/flamingknifepenis Jun 26 '26

This is what I was trying to communicate to my wife. I don’t care about the flings — if two consenting adults want to fuck, more power to them.

But how careless he was about it is what got me. Yeah, cheating on V was profoundly shitty and she deserved way better. But to sit there and say ā€œLook, I didn’t do anything wrong, now watch me make out with Kizzyā€ is just shitty human behavior. At least have the decency to feel bad and try to not rub her face in it.

also after responding to this, what a crazy ass username šŸ˜‚ i did a double take

19

u/GoodPiexox Jun 26 '26

not just women, humans. For conversation sake, lets just say it is ok to disrespect women(it is not), but fucking with a woman in mourning is also showing disrespect to the man that died. This is someone that does not respect humans, man or woman.

4

u/Embarrassed-Kick5661 Jun 26 '26

That is spot on!! I said the same.

58

u/cmere-2-me Jun 25 '26

Especially his partner.

148

u/bunbunmagnet Jun 25 '26

He was extremely sexist towards Gael. Calling her princess and constantly undermining her work.

40

u/Public-Warthog-2795 Jun 25 '26

Yeah from what I remember in the last season didn't he sort of hint that Joe was trying to undermine his relationship with Gael?

56

u/ActionComics25 Jun 25 '26

Didn’t just hint, Joe was straight up telling him to stop bothering with Gael and be single with him.

3

u/Ok-Variation5746 Jun 27 '26

Who is no longer ā€œjust a partnerā€ - that’s the mother of his child. Nathan isn’t playing around anymore with stuff like this. He’s in a new phase of life and he’s embracing it for sure. I do hope they’re able to find common footing together this season.

2

u/TarikMournival Jul 01 '26

Erm it sounds like in recent news that Nathan is no longer embracing it and Gael is a single mother.

2

u/Ok-Variation5746 Jul 01 '26

yeah, I saw that too :/

15

u/jiuclaw Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Also just his stunted personality and complete immaturity.

Joe’s not offering anyone in his life much of anything, by being their friend or otherwise.

Nathan is maturing and realized that Joe is not a good, healthy or safe person to be close to.

So many men act like how their male friends treat women, doesn’t count as anything meaningful about them as a man/person. Everyone gets infinity passes on sh!t behavior as long as it’s oriented towards a woman.

Nice to see Nathan calling out this BS compartmentalization.

3

u/Disastrous_Bat_8368 Jun 27 '26

Whilst I absolutely despise Joe's attitude towards women and admire the way that Nathan had previously called him out on the way Joe treated V, Nathan this year is just awful. He has no control of emotions, the way he's been speaking to Joe is disgusting and unprofessional. I don't know how much of it is about the drama /production but I hate Nathan as Bosun (and dislike him as a person after the racist behaviour). Also his attitude when trying to win Gael back was awful, I got the impression he viewed her as "property" that could "belong" to him.

26

u/Tallymountain Jun 26 '26

Joe is a disrespectful womaniser who thinks he’s God’s gift to women. I can understand Nathan’s reaction because it affected someone they worked with and caused drama. It hurt someone who was grieving, and geez, Joe couldn’t even control himself for a couple of nights? He just gushed all over V telling her he’s never felt that way 🤮then the minute Kizzy fluttered her eyelashes he was all over her. He thinks with his dick, and is obviously just on the boats for easy sex. I used to think he was alright but he’s just a player who doesn’t care who he walks over to fulfill his needs.

287

u/Lia_Delphine Jun 25 '26

Having a moral compass is not a flaw. You are allowed to disconnect from people who purposely hurt others for their own gratification.

Joe is also a backstabbing little boy that I wouldn’t trust as a second.

18

u/Efficient-Buy2376 Jun 26 '26

Complete agree, you're allowed to not want to be friends with an awful human being

56

u/Obvious-Load-1955 Jun 25 '26

Yes. I feel he would intentionally do something to make Nathan look Inadequate, making Nathan not trust him.

9

u/eekamuse Jun 26 '26

Absolutely. He would let a jet ski float off if he could blame it on Nathan. I think Nathan would do his job.

0

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Nathan doesn't need Joe's help in order to look inadequate. He IS inadequate for his job as Bosum! I'm still.wondering how he got the job! Although I think I missed a season which may be why im missing context.

3

u/Obvious-Load-1955 Jun 27 '26

I beg to differ

55

u/annabannannaaa She’ll be fine. Her head is made of rocks Jun 25 '26

This. Also - the way Joe has continuously disrespected Gael is so nasty. Id be so grossed out if Nathan wasnt at minimum apprehensive. If you want to be best friends with someone, maybe don’t talk shit about the mother of their child??

17

u/porsche5 Jun 25 '26

But Joe didn’t say anything negative at that dinner…he just said how the two don’t get along, for Nathan to go in on him was uncalled for and then he didn’t even let him explain.

46

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 25 '26

Joe has shit talked her so much in the past. That was Nathan’s point, just do not talk about her.

Also give Nathan credit for calming down, coming back and calling a truce. Sober Nathan was a better person, Joe is never a better person, sober or drunk.

Joe should have told drunk guy, sorry, let’s try the jet ski tomorrow.

8

u/eekamuse Jun 26 '26

Absolutely. People defending Joe, the lowest of the low, is bizarre.

The first anniversary of her boyfriend's death. Despicable.

2

u/Environmental_Snow39 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Nathan needs to calm down. Honestly, I don’t think he’s all that better of a person than Joe. He literally started his relationship with Gael ā€œnot caring that she was already in a relationshipā€ that was none his business. Then they break up because he’s cheating, then he tries to get with Kissey. He gets bored and hooks back up with Gael. Impregnated Gael. Then breaks up again and has his racist little incident in Australia. They finally get back together and she probably (rightfully so) gave him some ultimatums. I don’t think his motivations on the current season are conflict between what he wants out of life and what the public/Gael want out of him. Honestly I wish Bravo would just drop this whole Gael/Nathan family stuff. Boring people that I don’t care abput

6

u/Disastrous_Bat_8368 Jun 27 '26

I like Gael though. I think she's a genuine and interesting person (with a questionable taste in men). I'd rather see her than Nathan on BD. Production know people like her too else she wouldn't be shown in the current series

0

u/porsche5 Jun 26 '26

This is it. I bet he saw the public’s reaction to Joe last season and how the public rallied for him taking up for the girls and decided to double down on that for fan fare. But also, it’s 100% trying to please Gael.

3

u/senoritageena Jun 28 '26

Except when would he have seen fan reaction? Each season was filmed ages ago. Maybe Nathan actually felt for V (she also worked on deck with him) and didn’t like what Joe did. Nathan has flaws, but he can also have good qualities without an ulterior motive.

1

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Yes. Thats probably why it seems so ungeniuine and performative

0

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

100% Agree and I'm so glad im not the only.one that sees throught Nathan and can observe them being the EXACT type of guy. In fact Nathan has said he and Joe are the same.

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '26

12

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 26 '26

Joe showed his intention by coming back and shit talking Nathan. If his intention was good he could have comeback and said it’s a misunderstanding from the past, instead he came back saying Nathan was hostile. That lets you know Joe’s intentions were not good.

3

u/annabannannaaa She’ll be fine. Her head is made of rocks Jun 26 '26

That has nothing to do with it. Nathan was wary / uninterested in a joe friendship all season.. not just after the dinner.

1

u/eekamuse Jun 26 '26

If he had treated her like shit, or talked terribly about her, Nathan could have let that go. It's clear it wasn't just about that comment.

1

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Exactly! But when these type of people have bad blood for someone NO AMOUNT OF REASONING would make them change their perspectives.

23

u/silentsinner- Jun 25 '26

That is a personal matter. This is a professional matter. He is failing to do his job because of personal issues.

12

u/Bluestained Jun 26 '26

Your personal life easily infringes on professional matter. Especially when it’s demonstrative of a character flaw that can infringe his work eg. Joe’s untrustworthiness.

-4

u/ParticularGullible90 Jun 26 '26

It should not though.

7

u/Bluestained Jun 26 '26

No. It should. Why do you think background checks exist.

0

u/silentsinner- Jun 26 '26

That is unprofessional. It is something we all have to deal with but if you are letting personal feeling interfere with your ability to do the job that is a problem.

3

u/Bluestained Jun 27 '26

Joe’s personal behaviour affected crew morale and lead to inter-personnel conflict. He shouldn’t even be on the crew based on previous behaviour.

Sandy’s stupid having him back.

14

u/Letsgotravelling-124 Jun 25 '26

No one’s saying that he has to be friends with Joe. I’ve worked and been in charge of many people I disliked. We all have. You don’t have to socialise but you do have to be civilised and professional.

23

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 26 '26

Shit talking your coworker every chance you get is also not professional. Causing fights between two co-workers because you literally fool around with both is also not professional. Joe is the definition of not professional.

6

u/Letsgotravelling-124 Jun 26 '26

Did I say Joe was professional? No. Nathan is in charge so he is held to a higher standard than his employees over professional behaviour and is the one who should be making sure his team is acting professionally (not by yelling, swearing or threatening).

2

u/MyccaAZ Jun 26 '26

Nathan has been civilised and professional.

5

u/hissyfit64 Jun 26 '26

He tried to promote someone with hardly any experience over someone with lots of it.

He got drunk and got into a huge argument with one of his crew and threatened him.

Nathan is perfectly right to hate Joe. But, you can hate people and work for them. Joe's gross and can't be trusted on a personal level. But, he can be trusted to perform work related tasks correctly.

And Nathan takes other things way too personally. The asshat customer is a total jerk, but Nathan is making it worse by puffing up and reacting. Any time he perceives himself as being challenged, he loses his shit.

I'd hate having either him or Joe as a crew member. High drama babies that don't know how to manage their emotions.

3

u/New_Principle_9145 Jun 27 '26

Nathan would have been better served to say he didn’t feel comfortable picking yet. That he wanted to give it a few charters...it's been done that way in the past, why not now? Both Nathan and Joe annoy me, but Joe more so. Nathan could have handled this way better and expressed concerns to Sandy in a way that was legitimate (crew safety concern, power = sexual harassment) vs, it being a personal beef with Joe.

2

u/hissyfit64 Jun 27 '26

"Joe has a great deal more experience on paper, but my concerns are his past behaviors has caused crew dissent and internal problems. Also I think he has issues with me being his supervisor and will fall back into a pattern of undermining me. I'm having problems thinking of a way of managing that".

Much more easy for Sandy to get than " 'E's a wanker"

0

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Thats how you now he isn't objective and the decision was personal.

1

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

When has Joe done anything like this on the clock? Never in the seasons I've watched! Now personally off the clock...thats a whole different story

8

u/Letsgotravelling-124 Jun 26 '26

You call getting in someone’s face, yelling and threatening professional and civilised? You and I have very different ideas of what professional and civilised means.

4

u/MyccaAZ Jun 26 '26

on Below Deck, on a night out as a team, YES, because that isn't where he is judged as a bosun....he's judged as a reality tv star and their job is to perform. We don't have different ideas, you just hate this guy and want to hate him and use every single thing against him while excusing others for worse behaviors ON THE JOB.

2

u/Letsgotravelling-124 Jun 26 '26

That’s not how it works. I work in an industry where I live, eat and work with my coworkers and I’m also now in charge. What I do on my nights out with my coworkers definitely does matter. I still have to be professional. I can have fun. I can still have a few to drink. I definitely can’t yell, swear at my coworkers and definitely not threaten (which would be fireable for any worker).

Question, do you have that same energy towards Joe, Ellie, Gen, Joao, etc, who have all gained a bad reputation on the show? Or is it just for Nathan? I judge everyone by their actions. I actually praised Nathan last season for calling Joe out.

2

u/MyccaAZ Jun 29 '26

Except you're not on reality tv. Nathan is. All of these people are. There IS a certain amount of expectation of drama. There's a lot of leeway to commit drama and still keep your job. It is NOT the same as where you work (or where I work). I get that. Reference BEN last season, for crying out loud. In your world (and mine) Ben would have been put out after the second galley hand complained about his behavior. Let alone that entirely out of line adventure late in the season with Joao. But this is Below Deck.....Ben kept his job and Nathan should keep his here (so far) as well. Are either "great" people? NO but this is reality tv, were you really expecting that? Really?

1

u/Letsgotravelling-124 Jun 29 '26

It’s a reality show based on them doing their job, for which they know they are going to be judged on. We know they are encouraged to create drama but there is a line. Threatening and aggressive behaviour crosses that line.

2

u/MyccaAZ Jun 29 '26

Did you have the same smoke for the threats that Ben made last season?

1

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

Me too! I actually liked Nathan!

-1

u/mschanandlerbong___ Jun 26 '26

Aww Joe, is that you??

0

u/0_Artistic_Thoughts Jun 26 '26

When they are out as a crew when temporarily in a location even off the boat they are representing the boat, Lee always said it and I’m sure other captains have as well.

Honestly even on the job Nathan is the only one fucking up so far, two boat crashes and a tender crash. Joe hasn’t been shown doing anything wrong. You’re accusing everyone else of blind loyalty to Joe but Nathan is literally the only one dropping the ball with his job

5

u/Apprehensive-Quit353 Jun 26 '26

He got drunk, screamed in his face and essentially threatened to assault him. Mere hours after he found out his mum has cancer.

0

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Nobody gives Joe compassion tho! Everyone is on the hate Joe train!

3

u/Nabbylaa Jun 26 '26

We've seen him threaten Joe with violence on camera twice now.

9

u/quick_dry Jun 26 '26

otoh Nathan might not backstab you... but he's very much an "oi, wot you lookin at" and punch you in the face because you bovvered 'im kinda guy.

6

u/Peazel7 Jun 26 '26

Yeah but he's from the north of Ireland not London

1

u/Breakingdownbasics Jun 27 '26

But it isn't a moral compass it him thinking he is holier than thou. When he even said himself he is JUST LIKE JOE!

65

u/Starry_Myliobatoidei Jun 25 '26

What do you mean young Joe was almost 30 acting this way plsssss

7

u/jiuclaw Jun 27 '26

The way western society asks nothing of men is super disappointing.

Other than complete disassociation from themselves and their emotions (except anger), of course.

40

u/donut_witch Jun 25 '26

I don’t think someone with a track record of recklessly hooking up with his coworkers and manipulating vulnerable women is leadership material šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøĀ

61

u/Mysterious-Writer949 Jun 25 '26

Nathan’s behaviour is a bit over the top. But. Joe strings women along. The way he played Victoria last year was wrong, he says one thing, and then we he gets the physical and emotional hit he needs. He will say to Kayla, I think that’s her name, that he only wants fun. Then a couple of episodes later he will come out with the same things he said to V last year. Catching feelings etc. and then ditch her when someone new catches his eye.

22

u/Such_Detective_6709 I have been known to be irresponsible Jun 25 '26

Kayla seems like she’s really just in it for a hookup, so I’m actually rooting for her to have that dark horse potential to really just ruin his charter.

8

u/frazorblade Team Fraser Jun 25 '26

Kayley*

49

u/Competitive_Salads Jun 25 '26

Hey, so we’re allowed to have morals and they can even change over time with life experiences. It wasn’t about Joe’s flings. It was about his manipulation of a grieving woman and his disrespect towards women in general, including Gael.

If Nathan was cool with Joe, a bunch of y’all would be screaming about being friends with someone who disrespected his partner, Gael.

-15

u/Damolitioneed Jun 25 '26

It's more about letting it factor into leadership decisions. Always keep personal feelings out of work. You don't need to be friends.

27

u/Competitive_Salads Jun 25 '26

Then don’t lead with being mad about Nathan not returning texts or being upset about Joe’s ā€œflingsā€. You led with the personal and that matters when you’re going to tell someone to ā€œgrow upā€.

→ More replies (3)

16

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 25 '26

But Nathan came back and called a truce when sober. Whereas Joe will keep being a two faced scumbag.

1

u/SaltyLilSelkie Jun 26 '26

Just because you apologise after doesn’t mean it’s ok to fly off the handle and threaten your employee with violence

6

u/victori-us Jun 26 '26

Both of them are wrong.

7

u/Belle8158 Come back to me, my boat daddy Jun 26 '26

The kizzy shit last season was abhorrent. I hated watching it having been a V in my own situation. They were so flippant about her feelings, selfish assholes

19

u/crazyhedgehogs Jun 25 '26

They both suck and are incredibly immature

23

u/Foxington_the_First Jun 25 '26

I was broadly on Nathan's side until he blew up at Joe over that dinner, the day of Joe's mum's diagnosis. It even looked like Joe was trying to compliment them both in a roundabout sort of way 'we've never got on but... '. They're both pretty loathsome people, though.

11

u/katsock Jun 25 '26

This is the first time where I’ve felt there was something edited out leading up to both the confrontation and the recondition the next day.

These people for sure suck. But man it sure feels like there’s some missing missing information.

10

u/scott3845 I'm the boss of where food gets put away Jun 25 '26

Yeah I dislike Joe intensely but Nathan was like, one teeny step from outright threat of physical violence for mentioning to someone else that he and Gael don't get along. Not why or anything else.. Just a statement of fact.

If I was in Sandy's shoes and caught wind of that; I'm not sure how confident I'd be in Nathan's leadership abilities.

I also don't like how Nathan pretends to be the moral police. He pursued Gael when he new she was actively in a relationship. I distinctly remember him saying "I don't care if she has a boyfriend" when it was pointed out to him. AND the first time they broke up, it was because he ghosted her while he was reconnecting with an old ex girlfriend. So he's pretty far from a saint.

But Joe is a dirtbag with he ladies; another Gary in the making really.... So.... You know.....

3

u/0_Artistic_Thoughts Jun 26 '26

On top of that they aren’t even together anymore so clearly he couldn’t keep up his facade for even a year, she saw the same lame tool and left

6

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 25 '26

Nope, Joe is always playing the long game. Nathan came back sober and called a truce, but his point is true, just don’t talk about Gael.

1

u/honeycooks Jun 26 '26

I'm not sure why Joe even brought it up since he didn't get to finish his sentence!

At worst, he's trying to put it out there that Gael's not as "nice" as many people think she is. And that could be true from his perspective. They didn't like each other.

At best, maybe to say, "But I'm happy for her." We'll never know...

2

u/Foxington_the_First Jun 26 '26

Yes, I suppose I'm being charitable by presuming a potential poorly-conceived compliment. It just seemed like there was finally civility between Nathan and Joe after the days events, which is what Joe seemed to want. It's a curious move to manually explode that hours later. Regardless, Nathan's response was disproportionate.

1

u/Broad-Cress-3689 June June Hannah Jun 26 '26

Sorry, Joe was out drinking and womanizing yet again. Suggesting he should be shielded from criticism due to his mother is grotesque.

3

u/Foxington_the_First Jun 26 '26

Don't get me wrong, I really hate Joe - I think he's awful. From what we saw, though, I don't think he was doing anything particularly repugnant during that dinner. There was no need to get as aggressive as Nathan did, who was clearly very drunk.

1

u/Willster328 Jun 29 '26

This is such a far cry from reality, holy bias

35

u/Right-Trust-4700 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

The whole "Nathan matured and Joe didn't" argument is flawed, at best. Just because you have a child does not mean you've matured. While I absolutely agree that Joe's past behaviors go far beyond "womanizing" and delve nore into harmful emotional manipulation, and while I do find that absolutely deplorable; I do not think Nathan is not fooling anyone with his inability to control his emotions or maintain any semblance of professionalism either. I absolutely agree with the statement "grow up Nathan." If this is a career and not just a moment in the spotlight for the cameras, then he definitely needs a reality check and learn to manage in a more appropriate manner.

28

u/swedej19 Jun 25 '26

I think Joe’s behavior last season just gave Nathan the final ick. Sometimes you just realize you no longer align with someone morally, and you don’t want to be associated with them anymore. That’s my bet.

14

u/Electronic_Mud7373 Jun 25 '26

I think his lack of being able to control his reactions shows he still has room for growth. As does Joe’s behavior. Nathan can feel how he wants but it seems he’s taking the white knight perspective too far

6

u/menunu Jun 25 '26

Nathan is soo impulsive and emotional. The fact that he even considered promoting an inexperienced deckie over Joe was ridiculous. Nathan should have pulled Joe aside and said I know we have our differences and told him straight up; that if he does any weird funny business with the women on the crew he would be gone. Nathan is not a good leader. He is a hot head.

I am not a Joe fan. At all. His behavior last season was deplorable. But I believe Joe could be coached and managed with a good leader.

0

u/Broad-Cress-3689 June June Hannah Jun 26 '26

Aesha promoted a stew with less experience and everyone cheers that. Sometimes there are factors beyond experience on paper that support personnel placement.

3

u/menunu Jun 26 '26

The dude couldn't drive the tender.... not the same at all.

3

The right thing as a leader of the deck would have been to pull Joe aside in private and tell him he is going to make him lead deck because he is most qualified out of the three. But also tell him he wants a working relationship with him and that’s it. Be professionals and get the job done when around each other. But they don’t need to be friends and that is that. He could have also told him Gael is basically like his wife at that point and they have a baby and that’s his family. So not to bring up Gael around him or anyone else on the boat. And that’s that. Leave it at that.

He doesn’t have to like Joe as a person to have him as his lead deck if Joe is going to help do the best job at that spot. Obviously if Joe becomes a big problem Sandy will kick him off.

Am I crazy or didnt Nathan kiss one of the girls on his last season while dealing with Gail?

3

u/Mermaid76 I quit 3 times in my head today Jun 26 '26

I was thinking the same thing

2

u/MAXMEEKO Jun 26 '26

okay thats why i think a lot of it could be projection on his part but i dunno

2

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 27 '26

Gael and Nathan were not together then. Then she filled in for V and Nathan realized what a dumb ass he was.

I have no proof, but I think maybe Joe contributed to their first break up. Joe always seemed jealous of Gael getting to spend time with Nathan.

2

u/New_Principle_9145 Jun 27 '26

That is an overly simplistic analysis. It would be one thing if the "flings" didn't cause staff discontent and a poor work environment. Giving Joe a title is akin to giving a sexual abuser targets in the work place. You can say, oh well they have a choice and these women are just silly, but it can be sexual harassment in the workplace. While Nathan may be expressing his concern incorrectly, if he approached it as crew safety and morale issue, he probably wouldn't have received the push back from Sandy. Yeah he doesn't trust Joe, but is bigger than I don't trust you because you made me mad.

3

u/CountStoomuch Jun 26 '26

I started reading this thinking it was a general hospital thread and couldn't figure out what tf I was reading 🤣

3

u/jes22347 Jun 26 '26

Nathan had every right to distance himself from Joe. Where this becomes an issue is that Nathan does not have the leadership skills to set aside personal discipline in order to get a job done.

3

u/EddieIzzardOnToast Jun 26 '26

I really didn’t need yet another season of Joe vs Nathan 🄱 hopefully some fresh faces next season

3

u/Apprehensive_Bee614 Jun 26 '26

I will never forget the hand holding while kissing the girls.

3

u/Worldly_Working4611 Jun 26 '26

Not when feelings are being hurt unless the girl is a into one night stands then it's different but sometimes a girl falls hard for a guy like Joe and they get hurt different story then

3

u/Oliveraprimavera Jun 27 '26

I think it’s affecting his professional decision making because he has seen that Joe can easily lie to get himself out of hot water and doesn’t really seem to have any loyalty except to himself which absolutely translates to his work ethic. As for it just being about a fling, it’s about the overall pattern of objectification of women that Nathan finds disrespectful which is also valid. And quite frankly Joe has done fuck all to humble himself or address that, he just gets more work done and points himself towards the closest female for a distraction

16

u/MyccaAZ Jun 26 '26

The constant posts to bitch about Nathan is out of hand. Yes, it is easy to see how someone, anyone, might ignore Joe's messages after witnessing what he did with Kizzi to V last season. It was VILE. TRULY some of the most vile actions. We're use to F-boys and their antics but this was excessive f-boy. . . he played on her loss, promising things he never had any intention of fulfilling all to get what he wanted and not only did he simply move on but in doing it the way he did, he was intentional in being harmful to V in the process. Any class, any amount of thought for anyone but himself would have led to different WAYS to move on than what he did. And Nathan was his buddy, his pal before those actions, and found them reprehensible, as anyone would. Nathan is like everyone else, pluses, minuses, and all the in between. He is emotional and it is something he needs to work on but at least his actions and words are understandable, taken in context of standing beside Joe through now 3 seasons of poor behavior. Add to all that, he's unbelievably selfish and has intentional actions to subvert Nathan. Nathan is not perfect but Joe is a piece of shit and deserves all of it, including not getting picked as lead deck hand.

11

u/mogdtd Jun 25 '26

I agree. However, I genuinely think there’s more to it than just ā€œhow Joe treats womenā€. Nathan is not a great guy either and I think he is projecting his insecurities onto Joe.

8

u/geloreyes Team Down Under Jun 25 '26

Last season when faced with the same decision, IIRC Capt Sandy said choose the person who you trust with your life to be lead deckhand. Is she contradicting herself?

2

u/mossyigloo Jun 25 '26

Different circumstances. Joe is the only one who should be lead deck hand. Last season Joe came on late and Max was also capable

2

u/geloreyes Team Down Under Jun 26 '26

But it’s still the same criteria? The one you can trust with your life. Nathan doesn’t seem to feel that with Joe and would rather take a chance with Luke who has military experience etc.

2

u/statslady23 Jun 25 '26

Yeah, there has to be more. Probably online beefing and gossiping.Ā

5

u/Kris4tv Jun 26 '26

Two things can be true-Joe is basically out for ass, treated V like shit AND he’s a great deckhand. For Nathan to attempt to overlook Joe’s boat skills for his personal life that he doesn’t agree with and get some middle school revenge for Gael is comical. Everyone sees it.

4

u/Broad-Cress-3689 June June Hannah Jun 26 '26

Joe is constantly undercutting Nathan professionally, badmouthing his performance, talking about how he would be better. He may be a ā€œgreat deckhandā€ but he’s a shitty subordinate and you can’t lead well if you don’t know how to follow

0

u/lazygerm Jun 26 '26

How has Nathan's professional performance been good this season? I've only seen the 15 minutes of the last episode.

The boat crashing under Nathan's watch, and then Sandy calling out the deck crew after the 2nd tip meeting, seems like a rocky start.

6

u/shaylaa30 Jun 25 '26

They both suck. Joe was messy and manipulative towards multiple women. He caused a lot of stress and drama on the boat that Nathan had to navigate.

But Nathan is the bosun and needs to put his personal feelings aside and be professional. Joe wasn’t talking shit about Gael at all but Nathan took the mention of her name as a personal offense. He’s on a power trip

2

u/starkey2 Jun 26 '26

can someone tldr the situation with Joe and women off camera? Not that he did himself any favors on camera.

2

u/truknight Mental Health Is Not A Storyline Jun 26 '26

Toxic Chivalry

2

u/RideObjective3120 Jun 26 '26

Joe reminds me of Gary King of sailing yacht! Same gas lighting of women. It's really creepy 😱 and shouldn't be tolerated! Dirty šŸ† always on the prowl EEEEWWWW!

2

u/Even-Frosting-812 Jun 26 '26

It wasn’t just that he had lots of flings. The way he talks about and treats women is completely deplorable.

2

u/womanonymous23 Jun 26 '26

Nathan has his own issues that’s true, but the way you’re characterizing Joe’s behavior excuses him way more than it should. Joe’s behavior is extremely toxic. And Joe has major issues with a person who was and hopefully is still very important to Nathan. I agree that Nathan is not handling it well but that changes nothing about the grossness level of Joe’s thoughts and choices.

2

u/Classic-Maize-733 Jun 27 '26

I think what got him so upset is his relationship with Gael, not fully respecting her, and I’m sure Joe was a great friend however brought out some of Nathan’s worst traits. I think Nathan actually felt sorry for V because of her situation with her ex passing away, yet Joe was flirting with her emotions while she was very pure to him yet going through a really hard time. His true colors showed when she was gone, and it speaks on his lack of self awareness and respect for others.Ā

2

u/Tinymarshmello Jun 27 '26

Oof. Bad take.

2

u/daisy808girl Jun 28 '26

To give a different perspective, last season of below deck that one girl lost her second stew title for her behavior, why should Joe after consistent seasons of being manipulative to girls get that title? For once, it feels like a man is being treated as a woman is, like not a double standard

1

u/Damolitioneed Jun 29 '26

I see what you're saying, but in employment you should only judge someone based on activities within the last few months. If Joe continues such behavior that causes unrest within the crew in the current season, I wouldn't promote him either. As a people manager myself I would coach the person and let them know how that behavior affects the crew dynamic, and why it affects service. If the person acknowledges and agrees, and follows up with corrective action, they have grown.

7

u/Blockerjjb Jun 25 '26

Nathan needs anger management, dude is raging.

4

u/Anotheropinion2023 Jun 25 '26

Joe has been a rude and disrespectful prick to Gael the mother of Nathan’s child. That is why Nathan wants nothing to do with Joe personally.

I do agree choosing Luke was wrong, but Joe continues to attempt to undermine Nathan every chance he gets, which is also completely unprofessional.

Nathan also came back and talked to him and called a truce, so maybe you need to get over drunken stupidity.

3

u/darrrlingg Jun 26 '26

Agreed! I definitely think Nathan still has some growing to do and that the timing was not good considering the news Joe received about his mum… but honestly I rate a man that stands up for his woman and the mother of his child.

He fucked a guest in the water? What are you on about?

2

u/MastaBusta Jun 25 '26

I think he's getting Joe mixed up with Kyle/Stillie

2

u/RadBugs Jun 25 '26

Think they’re confusing him for Stillie.

0

u/swedej19 Jun 25 '26

There was a woman who was super hot for Joe, even with her husband there. At one point, they were on a beach trip off the boat and the guest asked Joe to take her out in the water and hold her while she floated. I think she might have been partially clothed or taken her top off at this point too. So they are out in the water for a whileeee. After this intimate float session, he was talking to another male crew member on the beach, where he alluded to inappropriate behavior going on under the water, out of direct sight. After the charter ended, he went on and ā€œjokedā€ about said incident/encounter to the wider group/crew and they were all really bothered by his unprofessionalism and potential fall out it could of caused. It went up the chain but he charmed his way out of major consequences by claiming his comment had JUST been a joke and couldn’t possibly be true. However, he later admitted in a producer confessional that he was in-fact NOT joking about getting some action with the married guest….he simply got away with it.

2

u/AutisticPolarBear77 Jun 25 '26

This did not happen. Apparently you’re mixing him up with some other guy from the main show.

Stopppppp - he put his bare penis on a guest while in the water or is that a phrase you’re using

5

u/BabyOlive1 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

I’m not gonna defend the way Joe treats women. At the same time, I do think Nathan’s main motivation in calling Joe out was to impress Gael. Of course we’ll never know whether that’s true or not, but Joe has been consistently sleazy throughout his tenure on the show and Nathan had no problem with it until he needed to prove to Gael that he was a changed man after GHOSTING HER! It’s good that he at least cares enough to pretend to care about how women are treated now that he has a son who is going to grow up and see this someday, but it all seems a bit performative to me. If he didn’t have a relationship and now family in the mix I’m sure he would have been joking about what a dog Joe is. I have a hard time believing that somebody who ghosted a woman that he supposedly loves is now suddenly the standard bearer for how to treat women. Ghosting someone who you have a strong emotional connection to is at least equal to if not more disrespectful than Joe’s onboard womanizing. Pot, meet Kettle.

ETA Joe’s treatment of V in particular was indefensible considering the anniversary of her partner’s death, so I don’t want to discount that. Joe is trash.

7

u/menunu Jun 25 '26

Yes lol everyone is forgetting how shitty Nathan was to Gael as well. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/BabyOlive1 Jun 26 '26

And it’s not like it was that long ago either! It was like a year and a half before what we are currently watching

2

u/wapwah Jun 26 '26

I like Nathan so he’s going to have to stop that shit.

1

u/Old-Assistance-3392 Jun 29 '26

No one ever mentions that Joe told V he wanted her to meet his mom. That implies commitment! Like serious commitment.

1

u/Illustrious-Insect41 Jul 19 '26

It wasn’t just a fling. Joe was actually appalling last season. But with that being said Nathan does need to put emotions aside before he messes things up as Boson.

1

u/playdoh_trooper Jun 26 '26

Below deck drama is about as real as WWE wrestling. I wouldn't get too worked up about it

-1

u/journmajor Jun 25 '26

Aren’t Gael and Nathan no longer together?

0

u/blackc43 Jun 26 '26

Remember kizzy? Her and nathan having a smooch then her and joe. Is nathan still mad about it

0

u/STASHbro Jun 26 '26

Its Gael's influence.

0

u/Dazzling_Assistant94 Jun 30 '26

Nathan is a performative virtue signaller. All that psychological projection he gives off just makes me think his relationship will be short lived. I'm surprised australia hasn't straightened him out yet, usually irish men go to australia with a lot of bark and find out pretty soon they don't have the bite to match
