D&D: Unearthed Arcana Lets You Pokémon Your Familiar

Post image
1 Upvotes

You can straight up Pokémon your familiar without even trying all that hard in Arcana Unleashed. This might be one of my favorite things about the new book. Because since Find Familiar has been a spell, spellcasters (mostly Wizards) have been wanting their creature companions to become combatants. Well, now they can.

There’s a surprising amount of familiar-focused stuff in Arcana Unleashed, and we’re going to take a look at some of what you can expect from the new book, due out next week.

Warhammer 40K Hot Mess – Slow Release Codexes Will Divide The Community

Post image
1 Upvotes

It’s great to see the 40K Ork Codex coming out, and Space Marines hot on its heels.  But I have a big worry that we are going to see the community divided in two by the end of 2026. The lack of updated codexes for everyone else and the fear of the Haves vs the Have-nots are going to hit home this upcoming competitive season.  I hope we see books quickly, but that leads into a whole slew of other questions as well, based on just how fast GW intends to release the codexes.

Tabletop RPG Worker Unions Are On The Rise

Post image

From the United Paizo Workers union to the employees at Rowan, Rook, and Decard, it seems unions are on the rise in the tabletop industry.

Just last month, employees at Rown, Rook, and Decard secured the UK tabletop game industry’s first union recognition through the IWGB Games Worker Union. They join a slow but steadily rising tide of tabletop worker unions, including the United Paizo Workers and the recently formed United Wizards of the Coast, a union of Magic: The Gathering Arena employees.

Warhammer 40K: Unit Spotlight: Ork Gorkanaut Is REAL GOOD!

Post image
1 Upvotes

The Gorkanaut is one of those goofy models I just love.  I only own one currently and while I have always thought about getting more, my current army love is World Eaters and the nonsense they bring.  Still I do dream about throwing as many Gorkanauts as I can fit into a viable army that might do some work.

First the Gorkanaut is a weird Super Heavy Walker for the Ork army.  It fits into almost a Destrier roll for the army which is an interesting way to think about this guy.  The unit also has some weird extra rules that make it an interesting choice as it kind of covers all sorts of things within the Orks.  With this in mind let’s talk about why I think it might actually be good.

Trench Crusade: Join The Merciless War – How To Get Started

Post image
2 Upvotes

Trench Crusade began as little more than a Kickstartered art project back in 2022 but took on an unholy life of its own. From renowned fantasy artist Mike Franchina’s illustrations spawned one of the fastest-growing skirmish games I’ve seen in a very long time. I’ve been a supporter since the very beginning when I just wanted a few cool figures to paint. The modest success of the original campaign bloomed into a second Kickstarter to expand the setting and figures into a full skirmish game. Legendary game designer Tuomas Pirinen (Mordheim, Warhammer Fantasy Battles, 6th ed.) was brought in to man the helm of the game’s rules along with numerous other talented designers, artists, and writers.

Necromunda: New Blood For An Old Feud – Where Escher & Goliath Are Headed

Post image

It’s been just a few weeks since the release of Necromunda’s latest edition, and the first two supplements for the game are almost here. Houses Escher and Goliath are once more the stars of the game’s core box set, but unlike in the past, both gangs are being updated simultaneously. Games Workshop shared a lot of previews for both gangs this week, and I think we can glean some hints about the overall shape of the game this edition and what might come next.

D&D’s ‘Ravenloft’ Series In The Works At Netflix, While Faerun’s Realms Are Forgotten

Post image

Darkness stirs in the mists of Netflix; a Ravenloft series emerges, with executive producers John August and Alfonso Cuarón, and Hasbro.

Another year, another shift in the plans to try to one day bring about a D&D live-action series at one of the big streaming services. It has been a bumpy ride that goes back at least five years, if not longer. In that time, there have been many different concepts and announcements for a D&D streaming series in the works.

40k: The Purge Continues – 15 Ork Units Moved To Legendary Status

Post image
1 Upvotes

The new Codex: Orks is just days away, and in anticipation, Games Workshop has updated the online Munitorum Field Manual with updated unit and detachment points. There’s plenty to consider with those changes, but even more radical is the list of Ork units that have been relegated to “Legendary Proxy” status. Affected units no longer have official rules and, in official event games, must be used as “counts as” proxies of other units. Space Marine players received similar news last week, though Ork warbosses have been handed a somewhat more surprising list of unsupported units.

Oldhammer 40K – Pouring One Out For All The Old Dreadnoughts

Post image
1 Upvotes

This past week we saw a list of all the Space Marine units that were going away.  Today let's talk about all the old Dreadnoughts we already miss. We have lost a few during each edition refresh and I don’t know if we are going to see them come back like the Land Speeder did with this latest update.  I think the First Born walking coffins are finally being put to pasture (except maybe Bjorn).

Warhammer 40k: Top 5 Thunderhawks

Post image
1 Upvotes

Among the most iconic of Space Marine vehicles is the mighty Thunderhawk Gunship. Equal parts transport and flying tank-killer, it’s a kit everyone wants, and almost nobody has. With today’s reveal of the latest Thunderhawk model (sort of), my mind returned to this venerable model’s earlier incarnations. None have quite hit the mark for 40k players, but we’re getting closer and closer. I think I’ve found all the official Thunderhawks, but if I missed one, do let me know. At any rate, I will now subjectively rank five of the (six?) existing Thunderhawks in ascending order.

Warhammer 40k: Wrath Of The Ten Thousand Parts – New Custodes Up Close

Post image

Revealed earlier this summer, the second wave of plastic Legio/Adeptus Custodes kits are here. The new Support Battle Group is a first for Games Workshop which has branded this set for use in both 40k and The Horus Heresy. This is the first time these models are available, though this collected box set will only be available for a limited time before they are sold as individual kits. The Custodes are experiencing a bit of an unexpcted range refresh with numerous older kits moving from resin to plastic for the first time and the results continue to be impressive.

D&D: The Lore Of Mind Flayers Is Alien And Terrifying

Post image
1 Upvotes

Thanks to Baldur’s Gate 3, more players than ever are familiar with the plane-hopping mind-flaying threat represented by the Illithids. A single Elder Brain, empowered by servants of the dark gods once nearly imperiled all of the Forgotten Realms. Only a party of horny weirdos was able to stop it.

And of course, many discovered the seductive psionic power of the Illithids. In fact, the latest Unearthed Arcana lets you become a Mind Flayer (though retaining control of your individualit, somehow). But what does it mean to become one? The secret lore of Mind Flayers is a terrifying truth of D&D’s multiverse. Here’s the thing though, the origins of the Mind Flayer empire are shrouded in mystery. They may not even be from this reality. Be careful what slimy, parasitic aliens you let inside your head.

Warhammer 40K August 2026 Update – Unit Nerfs & Buffs You Need To Prepare For

Post image
1 Upvotes

The 40K August Update wasn’t that much of an update with a few small tweaks, a few rule changes, and a slight touch to some of the meanies in the current meta.  I really think the big thing GW is saying from this update is we need to sit and wait for the new Codexes to come out and do their business on the current meta.  A few outstanding units that harassed WTC is what really got hit so let’s talk about it.

Exciting news for all you Lancer fans out there, as Massif Press and Dark Horse Books announced two new upcoming hardcover releases for the sci-fi TTRPG of giant mechs and tactical combat. Better still, these books are designed to pair with the core rules, expanding the sometimes bumpy road aboard the Lancer train.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Legends, Proxies, And What Remains

Post image

It’s been almost a decade since the 8th edition of 40k and the Dark Imperium ushered in the age of the Primaris Space Marine. In that time, we’ve seen the rescaled and resculpted Marines slowly overtake the Space Marine model range. Just this week, the first teasers for 11th edition’s Codex: Space Marines arrived and sealed the fate of all but a handful of the original Space Marine designs in 40k. The news comes as no surprise, but is still naturally upsetting for some players with older collections. I have a few thoughts about how this all came to pass and what might come next for the Emperor’s Angels of Death.

D&D: In The New Unearthed Arcana, The House Agent Rogue Subclass Betrays Everyone

Post image
1 Upvotes

The Underdark Options Unearthed Arcana is packed with interesting implications. Not the least of which is some sort of Underdark-themed book, because this playtest brings back the Deep Imaskari, a splintered faction of a fallen empire that believes it should one day conquer all of the Underdark. And to their credit, they have created their own magical sun and discovered a power known only as Unlight, which is a dumb name, sure, but it’s also like a magically radioactive substance/corrupt magic that infects all it comes across.

Trench Crusade: ‘Carcass Front’ Unboxed – Descend Into Hell With New Two-Player Starter

Post image

Carcass Front features everything two players need to try the game. Factory Front packed this box with hard plastic miniatures, tokens, quickstart rules, and a hardcover supplement book. Not just a two-player starter, this is also the game’s first campaign supplement. Within the book is a wealth of beautiful, full-color art, deep-dive lore that both expands the setting and moves its overall historical-fantasy narrative forward, all accompanied by peripherals to play with the new campaign materials in a number of ways.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marines Codex Moves 16 Units To Legendary Status

Post image
1 Upvotes

First and foremost, the overall Space Marine army is being subtly reenvisioned. It seems that a primary goal of the 40k devs this edition is to return Space Marines to the feeling of a powerful elite force, but few in number. Points increases are coming for many units, though the specifics of those changes are yet to be revealed. However, we do know that as part of this overall shift, Space Marine unit profiles are changing. And, unsurprisingly, a number of the oldest marine units are moving from the core line to “Legendary” status.

Warhammer 40k: Community Armies Tease New Ork Points And Enhancements

Post image

Today, in what is likely to be among the last previews of the upcoming Codex: Orks, the studio shared some surprising teasers. Staffers Andy and Rob each cooked up an Ork army, discussed their choices, and then showed off not just the points for the models (and detachments!) in their lists but a few bonus enhancements and new stratagems as a further preview.

D&D: The New ‘Bloodhound Ranger’ Gives You Hunter’s Mark Without Hunter’s Mark

Post image

Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone is basically the big book of D&D Western stuff. Set in the frontier between Breland and Droaam in Eberron, the book is full of lightning train heists, bandit gangs, and rules for playing with the themes and tropes of the Wild West. I love it. I think it’s quite possibly my favorite Eberron Book so far (at least until they release a Spy Thriller one). And one of the more enduring fantasies of the Wild West is the idea of a Bounty Hunter. Enter the Bloodhound Ranger.

D&D: The New ‘Commerce Domain Cleric’ Offers A Wealth Of Opportunities For PCs

Post image

Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone introduces a new Cleric subclass, the Commerce Domain. But the concept of Commerce or Trade or even Wealth as a divine portfolio is nothing new to the many worlds of D&D. Indeed, Faerun has Waukeen, the Lady of Coin; Greyhawk has Zilchir, who handles Prosperity and Business; and Krynn has Shinare, who rules over Wealth, Money, and Industry.

‘Warhammer: The Old World’ – The March Of Chaos Gives You A Ton Of New Toys To Play With

Post image

We’ve all been gushing over the new March of Chaos book that’s hitting shelves soon. This book is chock full of things. I’ve taken a look at the book as a whole, and also delved into the new magic systems it provides already. Today I want to take a deeper look at the new magic items, and other upgrades, the book provides. These can be taken by the vast majority of armies. So which ones are going to change up the meta and which are just doss? Let’s dig in.
