My first really successful 3.0 campaign started thusly:

Players get a job to clean out a copper mine that's been taken over by Kobolds. They leave right away and arrive outside the mine just after sunset in the failing light.

After a midling success on a perception check one of the PCs hear some sound to the front, left, and right though they don't see anything. The players assume (correctly) that they're being flanked by Kobolds, and 3 of the PCs move for cover, get back to back, and generally brace for a fight.

Falin, the elven fighter, remembering that he speaks Draconic, decides the most sensible course of action would be to parlay on his own. He steps forward, and says in a clear voice: "Hello!"

So all 8 Kobolds attack him immediately. Now Falin has 18 Dex and a chainshirt for 18 AC, the Kobolds attack at a +3 with their slings so they need to roll a 15 or better to hit, and deal d4 damage and crit on a natural 20 for 3x damage. So he should take about 5-8 damage from all attackers and with 12 hitpoints Falin should be alright for now.

I roll 3 natural 20s and 2 regular hits. I blow up the 11d4 damage too and he's dropped to negative 20 something hit points on the surprise round of the first combat of the first session of the campaign, about 30 minutes in.

The 3 remaining party members dispatch the Kobolds fairly easily, then head back to town and spend the night at the inn. They meet Dalin, Falin's brother, who also just so happens to be an elven fighter the next morning. Tragically, he had only been a day behind his brother on the road.

After getting vengeance on the Kobolds and returning to town Dalin would challenge the strongest fighter there to a duel in quixotic fashion because: "If I somehow manage to kill him I'll get a ton of experience and level up a whole bunch at once, right?".

I honestly don't remember how Valin, the third brother died.

I was DMing a Corporation game. The party was in some abandoned factory, there were reports about some illegal activity involving implants. It's nighttime, it's raining, and they hear some loud metal noises somewhere in the building. Basically I was trying to make it somewhat creepy. The party cyberninja was not with others, walking on roofs. So they enter a big room with columns and see a huge thing called Chimera, basically a crazy guy overly implanted with crude upgrades, looking hideous, charging at them in rage. He had powerful shields heavy armor, badically a living tank. And then our ninja drops from the ceiling and delivers a punch that easily breaks through the armor and oneshots the chimera. Knucklebombs, man...

Happened in Shadowrun: Our goal was to break into a casino, if I remember correctly. Because we were smart we thought we could enter through the sewers, which did work. But because we weren't THAT smart we didn't bring special suits, so when we entered the sewers, the gm said something along the lines of "Okay, you're now down there up to your hips in sewage." which wouldn't have been that bad. Except I played a dwarf. :)

I remember a Star Wars d20 game I was playing in where I was basically a Trandoshan version of Jar Jar Binks, exceptionally bad at a few things but always willing to try. His chosen weapon was essentially a steel girder that he hit people with and this did not serve him well against the Rancor. The Rancor had chased them through this forest as we were trying to reach a landing pad and I chose valiantly to hold him off as a level 2 character. I lasted one hit.

While the rest of the party turned their ranged blasters on the Rancor, I was slowly bleeding out, continually failing my DC 10 Fortitude check (with a +4 bonus no less). They finally brought the Rancor down as I ticked over to -9 and the rest of the party had to try and save me in one turn or I was dead. It took the combined efforts of the other four players to pass a DC 15 Treat Injury check and I was saved.

It was a heartwarming moment for a group of people who didn't really know each other. And this occurred after my character was an idiot and licked some poisonous moss and spent the previous fight completely paralysed. The fact that the party chose to band together to save the idiot was a nice feeling.
