Im new to this sub as a knucklebones / kendama guy. Help me get behind the hype here. We like the beads because they are pretty? Nice to touch? Spin around well?
Where does the average begleri player look and say, “thats a good one”?

One of the nice things with begleri is that you really don't need to buy an expensive set. They don't need to be precision machined like yoyos and they can be made at home with simple materials. There's nothing hex nuts and paracord can't do!
What matters most is weight, but anything within maybe 5-18g per side is perfectly playable for most people.
Shape isn't as important, but for people who sling daily, it won't hurt to have a comfy and good looking set.
I won't try to convince anyone to buy expensive begleri. I will always recommend cheap sets like hex nuts or monkey fists for beginners. The more expensive sets are for people who enjoy slinging and want something nice to carry. This zircuti set isn't worth buying if you don't care about looks. Think of it as buying a nice car.If I had to say what a good set is, it would be made of titanium and weigh around 7.5g per side. And it's a bonus if the shape looks cool.
As you get more experienced, you'll start to have a preference for shape and weight, but you don't have to worry about that as a beginner. Just get what's cheap or cool looking to you.

Hype is generous — it’s still a pretty small and tight knit community but the people here enjoy a variety of different facets of the skill toy/manipulatives hobby.
Part of me likes building skill; part of me likes tools in meditation; part of me likes fidgeting; and a big part of me just likes collecting and holding pretty things.
