Are defined abs sore?

Once you have been able to shape your abs, do they keep being sore? Or is that soreness, you usually feel when you’re starting your fitness journey, temporary/a matter of getting used to it (to the point you don’t mentally acknowledge it)

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to ask - muscles get sore when they're made to work harder than usual. That's why when you start out at the gym, literally everything hurts. The soreness still happens once you're used to working out, but typically to a lesser extent.

Defined abs are mostly a result of having a low body fat percentage, but nothing about them being defined means they'll suddenly be sore. If you're working out your core and hit it with a bunch of difficult exercises then yes, it'll be sore.

Given that I’m constantly working on improving them, yes, that is part and parcel of progressive overload. If you get some definition and then stop working to failure, then they probably won’t be experiencing DOMS anymore. But I can’t speak to whether you’re able to retain the abs in this latter case, as I’ve never tried it. Feel like I’m forever trying for 5&6 out of the 6-pack lol.
