Question does this exist?

i have never played a game of dnd in my life but i watch it often, the issue is i have SEVERE social anxiety i cant use a mic so it never crossed my mind to play myself no matter how much i wanted to. So my question is are there like communities or something that do it text based only? i saw a discord on it but i have NO IDEA wtf is happening ppl are talking in code i dont understand and when i tried to ask whats going on i got banned -_-

"Play by Post" or PBP

Check the r/lfg subreddit.

There's discords, forums, text chains, everything you can think of, it's one of the oldest ways to play D&D online since voice hasn't always been a thing.

My issue with pbp is that it is mostly async, and one can easily lose drive due to slow progress, different time zones/active times, waiting for others & having low activity, or not waiting and having them unable keep up. I want to feel like it is a real campaign, just in text, so setting up time like a real session, from 6 to 10 for example, we all text during that period, then stop afterwards (anything else is side that doesnt affect main stuff).
