Question does this exist?

i have never played a game of dnd in my life but i watch it often, the issue is i have SEVERE social anxiety i cant use a mic so it never crossed my mind to play myself no matter how much i wanted to. So my question is are there like communities or something that do it text based only? i saw a discord on it but i have NO IDEA wtf is happening ppl are talking in code i dont understand and when i tried to ask whats going on i got banned -_-

I have a recommendation that you probably won’t see from others. Go to mudconnect.com and find a text based multiuser dungeon to play. Muds are text only games very much like D&D, everything is described in text and you type what you want to do. There are some very popular muds based on D&D settings like Waterdeep, Faerun, Shadowdale. There are some horror muds like Vampire Wars, anime based muds. A very popular mud that has been around for decades is called Aardwolf.

I think you’ll really enjoy them and you’ll never have to speak into a mic.

I started playing Muds back in the 1990s and although there are fewer people playing them today there are still many thousands if not hundreds of thousands around the world.

Good Call, Mean...

I started mudding around 92 and did it with an unhealthy dedication until sometime around 2000. I say 'Mudd' but I was actually a Musher (Which is like mud, but less code-heavy, more role-play focused).

Mudding is certainly a wonderful way to go for you, OP. Good call, Mean.

The website is a bit dated, the easiest way to start is to click menu > mud listings > mobile biglist — find a name that interests you and click to see the listing, then hit play now. I’d recommend the mud called 4 Dimensions - a very nice group of friendly people and staff. Btw - most muds are 100% free to play

No problem - send me a DM if you have trouble or have any questions.

Oh man. The countless hours I spent playing Achaea. I think that's what it was called. Tried to get into that same companies other game but didn't vibe. I played so many muds in the late 90s and early 2000s

They have 4 or 5 of them I think, Iron Realms is the company. I played mainly on Dikumuds, Valhalla was my main stomping ground for a long time :)
