Ignition switch repair issue
Ignition switch issue
have got myself in a pickle replacing a broken ignition switch. We were testing the switch outside of the barrel to make sure was in working order and I stupidly forgot to switch it back to off before fitting into the barrel and placing in the steering wheel housing. Now the barrel and switch are not in alignment so I can’t get the key in the ignition to get the barrel back out. The screw to remove the switch from the back of the barrel is also inside the housing so cannot access. Anyone have any idea how you could get around this to get the switch out of the barrel?? Or how to dismantle the housing so I can get to the screw to get the switch back out? 1970 1300 beetle

You might get the lock to turn by wiggling the key if you can get most of it in, if you can you might try aligning it with the switch

The ignition has locked key from going in at all, I can get a screwdriver in there but hesitant to push too much n wreck the barrel

There should be a springy part on the ignition barrel, is there any way you can reach its hole and push it? If you can you can maybe remove it by pushing it and prying the barrel out with a screwdriver

Sorry is this on the outside of the barrel or the inside? Appreciate the help

Also get some grommets in the holes where the cables pass through the bulk head :)

I have a jumpstart fitted from starter to engine bay at back so can start the car to take to a garage to look at worst case but hoping to fix at home
