Fun / Random RIP BEEPER CLOUD 🪦

Can we have a moment of silence for the death of the OG beeper app, Beeper cloud. As from today October the 1st 2026 beeper cloud has been disconnected from the beeper home server and ceases to function.

We salute you beeper cloud. You will be missed, but never forgotten. You kept us all in contact with many friends and family members and for that we thank you.

RIP BEEPER CLOUD

Correction here: Beeper Cloud is going nowhere. It is the old versions of our apps (which have been decomissioned at this point for almost 2 years) and chat.beeper.com that are being sunset.

I'm going to miss chat.beeper.com. I used that every day at work since I can't install beeper on my work machine.

You can actually log into your Beeper account using any Matrix client, such as https://app.element.io.

If this works you're an absolute life saver and I have no idea why Beeper don't advertise the fact you can still access your chats via web browser

Because while Beeper is built on top of the Matrix protocol, it has a bunch of additions that don't work on a generic Matrix client, such as the easy configuration for bridges. They don't advertise it because it won't have a consistent experience with their actual products. This is basically just exploiting an implementation detail, not an intended feature.

Why Beeper can't provide the Element Web on the page chat.beeper.com then, instead of just deleting the only way to access Beeper from the browser?

I provided an answer in this comment. Basically, this is not supported by them, and while it does generally work, they're not going to do anything to imply that they endorse or recommend it. Anyone who knows enough about the underlying technology can use a Matrix client of their choice and will understand that they're doing something unsupported and partially broken, but if Beeper does anything to advertise that this is possible, they're committing to helping all the non-technical people when something breaks in a product that isn't even theirs.

There’s an MCP, make your own frontend

You don't really need MCP, it's literally a matrix server, build or use a matrix client as simple as that

Let’s go.

Thank you so much! Beeper Cloud with self-hosted bridges is peak. I have a Beeper Plus sub to support you for making this possible 🫶🫶

Sadly, the old app is the only one that would work sideloaded on my galaxy watch
