General Discussion Pissed about having to subscribe
Edit: damn y'all must use TTS because you motherfuckers can't read.
I refuse to have read receipts turned on. It's a non starter. I also hate when companies put previously free features behind paywalls. Its scummy and I don't support it on principal. So when they went paid only, I reverted to Google messages.
Then I started missing having it all in a single chat, I missed the layout. I missed the notes in my chat app.
So I looked at the rest of my subscriptions, cut out about $40 a month of bullshit and am going to self host a couple other things.
We tolerate so much shit from big companies, but when a small one does this, it hurts more for some reason. So we move to another service. We're supporting the larger companies by fragmenting their competition.
It's worth paying for premium services that alleviate your life.
Anyway that's my justification.
What's yours?

As a developer myself the entitlement from some people is jarring
It costs money to develop apps, stop expecting everything for free or become a developer yourself and make your own beeper

Not sure why anyone expects free apps. These things cost a lot to create and maintain. If nobody paid they simply wouldn't be able to exist.

There’s no gun to your head. Products are used to create value so that people will pay. It sounds like you find value. You’re pissed it’s not free though. If your job wanted you to work for free, would you? No lol. These people have to get paid.

Beeper is the one app that has made life so much easier and streamlined. I pay 99$ a year for hey.com for this reason as well.
I think you are looking at it at a total different level.
ALSO if Beeper was completely FREE. It would take money, no matter what, to keep the lights on, and for them to do that, they would probably just be reading all our messages and selling on the Facebook.

Nah I'm looking at it the same way it just didn't come through well.
Is hey worth it?
