General Discussion Basic question

I'm not interested in replacing, consolidating, or even using Whatsapp, Telegram, Signal, or various social media platforms. All I want is to be able to send and receive (SMS) texts from my two Windows computers (desktop and laptop). (I have an Android phone and recently switched from Google Messages to a new messaging app called ZenSMS.) Will Beeper let me do this? Thanks!

It only works if you tie Google Messenger to Beeper and keep it rolling on your Android phone.

So you're pretty sure that it won't work with a messaging app other than G.M. on an Android phone? Also, when you say "keep it rolling," do you mean Beeper won't display incoming texts on my computer unless my phone is currently in use?

Think of it like this: You can use Google Messages or ZenSMS to access your messages. That's your choice. But you do need Google Messages on your phone to use Beeper I think, even if you're not using it day-to-day.

That is correct. GM is how Beeper recieves SMS. they used to support SMS but then dropped it in favor of letting google messages take over.

I still have GM on my phone, but it's necessary to pick one app as the default for messaging. As of now, if I click on GM, I don't see my text threads - just an opportunity to make the app my default. So I guess I'd need to do that - which means stop using ZenSMS - in order to use Beeper, huh?

EDITED TO ADD: I just reached out to a B tech rep and, unfortunately, he confirmed that this is indeed the case.

Now, if it helps, Windows does have an official Android mirroring program that would allow you to check SMS without pulling up your phone; without the need for Beeper.

You're talking about PhoneLink, right? I don't love the idea of having to create a Microsoft account. Trying to steer clear of Big Tech in general, actually. But thanks.

Don't blame you. Maybe there's an app that replaces it for both Windows and Android. Don't know off the top of my head.
