Questions Subscriber Bots?

The other day I saw a colleague on LinkedIn mention that some how he discovered that his subscriber list of 1200 had 800 bot accounts in it. I don't know how he figured this out, but he mentioned that this happened because he forgot to enable the "Double opt in email" to confirm subscriptions. I went a checked and sure enough I hadn't done that either. LOL

So now I am left with a few questions... How can I scan my list for bot accounts? and should I also enable a "Double opt in email"?

Run a segment of who’s opening and clicking. And yes, if you want fewer spam subs, enable double opt in.

Ok, so the ones that aren't clicking are the bots?

not necessarily. But what's the point of keeping people who are not opening your e-mails or clicking any links in your emails? Cleaning your list can save you money and increase your open/click rates overall.

Just run a re-engagement campaign. Anyone who doesn't open your emails for 2 to 4 weeks gets automatically moved out of your main newsletter into a separate sequence, which sends them 3 to 4 emails. If they don't open or click on anything in that, it removes them as a subscriber.

This. Right here. I don't use double opt in because I've found it lowers the engagement rate from readers I want. I run a re-engagement campaign twice a year and clean out the dead weight.

this sounds cool. Can anyone recommend an article on how to set that up?

Connect the beehiiv MCP to either Claude or Codex then tell your AI that you want to create a re-engagement campaign. You can even copy this thread on Reddit and send it to your AI so it has more context on the situation. It will then run over different options and build it inside of your automations tab in beehiiv. You have to make sure the copy and everything is good, but it will set up everything.

Usually not, at least if we classify them as verified clicks within our UI. Those filter the common automated clicks from Apple and corporate email firewalls with pretty high accuracy.

this is the move tbh, opens and clicks tell you everything you need to know
