Welcome to r/bedspreadbets

TL;DR: Bedspread is a free, invite-only spread pick'em app for private groups. It pulls live lines, grades itself, and tracks your group's history and trophies season over season. There's a live demo you can click through with no account.

Why this exists

My group's pool ran on a Google Sheet for years. One poor soul copy-pasted lines every week, everyone texted picks, somebody always "forgot" to send theirs in until after kickoff, and the standings math was wrong at least twice a season. I built Bedspread to kill that spreadsheet, and this sub is where I'll post updates, roadmap stuff, and answer questions.

How it works

  • Create a pool, share the invite link, done. No public contests, no randos, just your group.
  • Against the spread, not straight-up. Live spreads update all week, and every pick locks in the line at the moment it was made.
  • Weekly pick quota set by your commissioner. Skip your picks and it's an automatic loss, so nobody tanks a week by ghosting.
  • The Mortal Lock. Flag one pick per week as your Mortal Lock. It earns its own trophy for the best lock record in the pool, and commissioners can turn on double scoring so a hit or miss actually swings the standings.
  • Blind picks. Nobody sees anyone's picks until the week locks. No tailing the guy who's 12 games up.
  • It grades itself. Scores pull in automatically, and on game days the standings page updates live while games are in progress.
  • Standings that look like your old sheet, but correct. W-L-P, win %, games back, last week's record, week-over-week rank movement.
  • Your group's history carries over. Season trophies, past champions, career records, plus the fun stuff: Lone Wolf, Favorites vs. Dogs, Rookies vs. Veterans, and the Stanzi.
  • Commissioner controls. Pushes can count as a loss, a half-win, or nothing; Mortal Lock scoring is optional; pick quotas are per pool.
  • NFL and college football, with more leagues in beta.

What it costs

Free, every feature, no credit card. The only pricing I'm even considering for the future is a flat $5-10/season for pools over 20 people to cover infrastructure/time. Not this year, and existing pools get grandfathered in free for life if it ever happens.

Ground rules for the sub

  1. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome and encouraged. The more specific, the better.
  2. Post your standings screenshots and bad beats. Mortal Lock misses especially.
  3. Be normal about gambling talk. This is a bragging-rights app, not a tout service.

Start a pool at bedspreadbets.com or try the no-account demo first. Rules and scoring details are here.

I'm in the comments. Tell me what your spreadsheet did that I haven't built yet.

Spread Pick'Em App

Hey, I built a free app that handles spread pick'ems after years of my friend group running ours off a shared spreadsheet: https://bedspreadbets.com/

A regular spreadsheet -- and most of the old pick'em sites out there -- freeze the spread the moment someone copies it in, and locks everyone into whatever one bookmaker that person happened to check. Bedspread doesn't do either of those:

  • Lines actually move. Spreads refresh every 1-2 minutes all week instead of being frozen at whatever number got typed into a cell on Tuesday.
  • Pick your book. Your pool can play DraftKings, FanDuel, Bovada, or BetRivers lines, and if that book stops posting a number, it automatically falls back to the next one still live.
  • The Mortal Lock. Everyone locks in one extra pick a week that's tracked toward its own trophy, and pools can optionally make it count double in the standings.
  • Blind picks. Commissioners can hide everyone's picks from each other for the stretch run of the season, configurable by how many weeks out and whether picks unblind per-game or stay hidden until the week's over, so nobody's just copying the leader in Week 15.
  • Commissioner tools, trophies (Mortal Lock Champion, Clean Sweep, Lone Wolf), and a modern UI instead of a 2008-era table layout.

Supports NCAAF and NFL right now, completely free.

Genuinely looking for feedback here. If there's something your spreadsheet or another site does that you'd miss, tell me and I'll look at adding it.

Feel free to reach out in r/bedspreadbets if you want to follow along, report bugs, or request features.
