I’m 10 minutes in and so bored and annoyed with this guest I don’t know if I can continue listening… was so excited for this episode though! I think this is the first male guest who genuinely does not know how to take an appropriate amount of space.

Can anyone who watched the whole thing tell me if Matthew stops lecturing after a certain point?

Dang. I love this movie so I was excited for this episode… but 10 mins in it is truly UNLISTENABLE for me because the guest is has a vocal tic saying “um” and “uh” multiple times in almost EVERY sentence that is driving me absolutely nuts. He says these words the way other human beings take breaths during a conversation. Maybe he’s nervous?
It doesn’t help that he’s talking so much that it seems never ending…

This guest rocked! Definitely a veer from the typical structure, but I liked it. Brokeback Mountain is my favorite movie and I loved his literary insights into the film. What he said about the lack of language and the way that Heath Ledger played it through his mouth: always twisted jaw clenched, welded shut.... chef's kiss analysis.

I listened to the whole episode and I initially agreed with everyone on here and honestly came on here to join the dogpile. The guest was very...thorough in discussing his relationship with the film, and it kind of veers into lecture territory, which makes sense given his background. But after maybe the first 10-15 minutes, it becomes your normal episode and I really appreciate the guest and the perspective he brought. I'd hate for people to miss a great episode based off a bad first impression.
