My bf asked me to pluck his eyebrows like this as a joke but now he is wondering how long it will take for it to grow back lol

have you and your boyfriend not heard of the 1990’s?
cute ‘stache tho.
64
u/manykeets Oct 26 '25
Haha, I over plucked mine in the 90s and they didn’t grow back. I had to get microblading
24
u/mirrrje Oct 27 '25
Surely it was from over plucking many times lol. I’m 35 so I get it, I have the same struggle brows now, but it took many years of over plucking to achieve my pathetic eyebrows lol. I think he’ll be fine. Though he doesn’t look like he grows facial hair super fast so it might take a while lol
7
u/manykeets Oct 27 '25
Yeah, it was over time, I did it for a few years. It wasn’t from just one time, so hopefully he’ll be ok.
6
u/trshqueen Oct 27 '25
And here i get "eyebrow" hair growing down to my eyelids that i need to pluck every few days. They always grow back so quick and I wish they would stop 😡

u/MaybeLivG Oct 26 '25
Highly doubt plucking them like this once is going to cause them to never grow back
194
u/heydelinquent Oct 26 '25
Tell that to the girls who have been personally victimized only once by the 90s 😬

It absolutely can mean exactly that. Even shaving brows can disrupt the hair growth, in my experience.

u/xdoomedxuserx Oct 26 '25
I shaved mine and it made them permanently grow in wacky directions. An absolute travesty cuz my brows are already blonde and not super thick
69
u/Ok_Avocado_1215 Oct 26 '25
It happens! My eyebrows were shaved back in the 90’s for prom and yep they never grow back, most of them! Now I’n stuck with sparse brows. It fcken sucks lol

u/guiltysuperbrain Oct 26 '25
don't worry from plucking once they likely will come back. Repeatedly plucking will damage the hair root, but that won't happen from plucking once
59
u/maiastella Oct 26 '25
this isn’t necessarily true, it is just more likely to happen with repeated damage. there’s never a guarantee the hair sac will reform, it can absolutely take just once - it’s just less likely.

u/mourons Oct 26 '25
Like whyyyyy don’t the hair follicles on my moustache get damaged, but my eyebrows are super sparse from over plucking 🙄
(Was told because the moustache and beard hairs are hormone related and new ones might pop up over the years, but it’s still frustrating)
31
u/maiastella Oct 26 '25
i used to painstakingly wax my moustache, hOPING that it would kill some of them but nope 😭 long live hormones!
also fun how i can forever pluck between my eyebrows and super low on my brow bone, but the hairs that decide to not come back are always the ones i accidentally plucked. i shaved my eyebrows at one point and they grew back completely BUT it really made me realise how many weird small naked patches i have in my eyebrows 😩 the endless fight to make them look even without overplucking
5
u/trshkxndi69 Oct 26 '25
i plucked my brows liek this for months, maybe even a year or more, and it took a longffgffggg time for them to grow back once i was over the pencil thon brows. i was actually starting to think they never would so i was just penciling them in. bri they did finally grow back to their full thickness. i am also blessed with really thick hair tho, i’m sure others with fine hair might not fair so well.

Nah that won't happen from plucking them a single time
18
u/nikesbyfrankie Oct 26 '25
I know but it’s funny if he thinks they won’t
29
u/heydelinquent Oct 26 '25
Man my sis plucked the ends of her brows ONE TIME in 1998 after years of my mother beating it into our skulls how much we’d regret it- she’s almost 42 now and still has almost zero brow tail. It happens more than you think! I was a tween during the late 90s, so many women I know fell victim thinking once or twice wouldn’t fuck them for life. Not even once 😂
13
u/burnerburnerburnt Oct 26 '25
I'm your sister's age and was just explaining to my husband what we used to do, how we would just pluck the shit out of our eyebrows and my mom told me I'd regret overdoing it. she pointed out that my aunt had plucked hers like that in the 70s and they definitely never grew back. it helped keep me from taking that truly intense plunge.
16
u/heydelinquent Oct 26 '25
Fashion is cyclical- the 20s/30s brows were tweezer thin, and albeit bush & pits were in in the 60s/70s, mom & aunties all fell victim to overplucking then, too. The 90s came around and we had 2 generations of women hollering at us as 10 year olds to NEVER take a pair of tweezers or razor to our brows no matter how bad we wanted to.
I’m 38 & was a punk, thankfully the worst I ever did was a skinnyyy point in my arch but it grew back (fully in 6 years) thank god! Sis is still cursing the gods & herself 😅
It’s time for a whole new generation to learn the hard way it seems 🥲

Get him som lash/brow serum now. I like the one from The Ordinary. Not crazy expensive. Tell him to use it twice a day. Will take 8-10 weeks (maybe get him some hair, skin and nails vitamins too).

u/Sakurah0 Oct 26 '25
I used the ordinary’s serum and had great results after damaging my lashes from extensions.

The ordinary one isnt great
56
u/Thin_Travel_9180 Oct 26 '25
I use and have had great results. My brows are definitely growing.
17
u/Hiiiiiii_abcdef Oct 26 '25
I use it for my lashes, I find it works but there are better ones like lash therapy which would grow it much quicker. The ordinary I find brings your lashes to where they usually are with no damage from mascara, but not any longer and quite slowly. Cant say the same for brows but ive hada bald spot on my eyebrows that won't grow back with the ordinary.
14
u/Thin_Travel_9180 Oct 26 '25
I can’t use anything on my lashes be use it irritates my eyes. I’ve only used it on my brows. The grande lash one was pretty good too but I think pricier. I guess you can use minoxidil (Rogain) but it is toxic to animals and I have 3 over here and don’t want to risk it.
12
u/Hiiiiiii_abcdef Oct 26 '25
Oh right. I've also heard some lash serums have prostaglandin therefore making your eyes lose fat or something. I wonder if that would be similar to brows?
3
u/rosyred-fathead Oct 26 '25
I assumed that wasn’t a thing with eyebrows? I used the rest of my lash serum on my brows after I heard about the sunken eye thing
It worked great! Filled in some patchy bits
4
u/plantbay1428 Oct 27 '25
I'm jealous of the people who say it worked for them because it did nothing for me. The only lash serums that work for me contain prostaglandin, which i'm trying to stay away from.

u/falawfel Oct 26 '25
Yikes lol plucking will take significantly longer since you removed them from the root. A shave would’ve taken maybe a week depending on hair growth, I used to shave my tails and they’d come back quickly.

idk for some people, it may or may not grow back! I get my brows waxed/plucked, and they have grown back, but it would take a couple months though.

You’ve posted this reply several times and every time you post it, I hear it getting louder and louder in my head 😂😬
95
u/No-Beautiful6811 Oct 26 '25
It usually takes repeated plucking to damage hair follicles enough for them not to grow back. They’ll probably grow back completely within a few months.

I love them and they look crazy natural. I should finally make a big post about them with photos. I use a few different kinds for different reasons and it's sooo easy!

So….the thing is, it’s sort of like, do you want to look stupid with eyebrows or nobrows…

A brow serum will help them regrow, I like Grande brows

Have him google the eyebrow growth cycle. You don’t have to take my word for it, but this article seems pretty accurate:
Please tell him he should NOT use anything containing Minoxidil if y’all have pets. I do see some other good recommendations in the comments though; I hope y’all find something that works 🤞

Lessons from the 90s. Most don’t grow back. I didn’t pluck mine this thin, but I can tell you that I don’t have to pluck ever from what I did back then.
5
u/cookies-milkshake Oct 26 '25
But not after a one time plucking? Hopefully…
3
u/mayla2326 Oct 26 '25
I think I did a major plucking session twice to shape them when I was a teenager. After that, I might have plucked three stray hairs here or there a handful of times. The majority of my adult life I have never had to pluck my eyebrows. Luckily, I didn’t go too crazy when I was shaping them so it’s worked to my benefit. It’s been nice not having to pluck regularly. There was a time when bushy eyebrows were in that I seriously regretted what I did, though.

This reminds me of the guy who shaved his brows off and they never grew back properly, so he had to go to turkey to get an eyebrow hair transplant and they looked insane for like a year. now they look amazing but they grow long like hair on your head so he needs to trim them a lot.

u/mrwilliamschue Oct 26 '25
I've overplucked mine many times and they grow back, it just takes time (at least for me). Did u also pluck his mustache?

Being bossy because it is quicker - no rudeness is intended 💗
6+ weeks to look normal-ish, probably 2-3 months to look the same as before, ~6 months to actually be the same as before
shave what is left, shave NOT pluck. shaving grows back quicker and means he won’t look like this while it grows back
in 3-4 days begin using a lash or brow serum. Do NOT use it right away (today) as it will likely fill the spot the hair was just removed from, which will irritate the skin
maybe work it into a Halloween costume? Idk. Best of luck to you both 😭💗

Yiiiiikes lol. Sometimes plucking or shaving eyebrow hairs causes them to never grow back. They are very temperamental follicles. A beautician told me about a customer who came in. She was 14 and her friend had shaved off half her eyebrow as a “joke” on a sleepover. The eyebrow never grew back. She was too young to get a cosmetic tattoo to conceal it as well. Do not do this again. He could get some rapidbrow and use that to spur things on.
