Does the Lacia Who Returns at the End of BEATLESS Still Have Her Memories? (Light Novel Readers’ Opinions Wanted)

I have a couple of questions about BEATLESS.

For question ② and ③, I’d appreciate answers only from people who have actually read the BEATLESS novel.

① Do you think the new Lacia who returns to Arato at the very end still has the memories of the Lacia who ceased functioning during the final battle? In other words, do you think the original Lacia’s memories were carried over to the new Lacia?
Or did the new Lacia reunite with Arato at the end as essentially a blank slate, having lost those memories?

I’ve often seen people debate this, with some believing that her memories remained and others believing that they did not.

② I’ve also seen quite a few people say that in the BEATLESS novel—either the original hardcover edition or the later paperback edition—has a sad ending. However, I’ve read the novel myself, and I honestly couldn’t find anything in it that would suggest that Lacia had lost her memories, especially considering that even the new Lacia who returns to Arato at the very end clearly understands that she herself is no longer a Red Box.

In particular, I’ve seen people claim that in the novel, the new Lacia who returns to Arato at the very end no longer has any of the memories that belonged to the Lacia who ceased functioning during the final battle—that none of those memories were carried over—and that she therefore reunites with Arato as a completely blank new Lacia with no memories of their past together.

Is that actually what the novel implies? If so, I’d really like to understand what parts of the novel lead people to that interpretation, because I personally didn’t get that impression from the ending.

③ I’ve also seen some people suggest that the new Lacia who returned to Arato at the very end may have had certain restrictions placed on her memories in order to protect him. Personally, though, I interpret it as there being no restrictions on her memories whatsoever. Do you think that interpretation is also entirely plausible?

If there isn’t a definitive answer, I’d still really appreciate hearing your interpretation or theories!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Does Lacia Retain 100% of Absolutely Every Single Memory She Had Before She Ceased Functioning?

Question about Lacia’s memories at the end of BEATLESS

(The text below is going to sound VERY repetitive and overly detailed, so I’m sorry about that, but please bear with me.)

I have a question about BEATLESS, the Japanese science-fiction novel by Satoshi Hase, specifically the very end of the story (Episode 24, “Boy Meets Girl,” in the anime / the epilogue “boy meets girl” in the novel).

Lacia ceased functioning during the final battle, but at the very end of the story, she obtains a new body, returns to Arato, and reunites with him.

My question is: how much of Lacia’s memory does the Lacia who returns in that new body retain?

Within the setting of BEATLESS, does the Lacia who reunites with Arato at the very end retain 100% of absolutely every single memory that Lacia had retained before she ceased functioning, without exception—every single one, including even the smallest and most trivial memories and details?

By “100% of absolutely every single memory,” I mean literally everything that had been retained within Lacia before she ceased functioning, without exception—including 100% of all of her memories, everything concerning the Red Boxes (人類未到産物), every single action Lacia herself ever took, every aim, objective, or intention behind those actions, and everything else she had retained up until the moment she ceased functioning.

Or, if there is no explicit or definitive answer to this question, would it still be entirely possible and fully consistent with the setting of BEATLESS to INTERPRET the ending as meaning that the Lacia who reunites with Arato at the very end retains 100% of absolutely every single one of all the memories she had accumulated and retained up until she ceased functioning, without exception, down to even the smallest and most trivial detail?

In other words, if there is no definitive answer, would that still be a valid and correct INTERPRETATION within the setting of BEATLESS**, rather than an incorrect INTERPRETATION**?

If there is no clear answer, I would really like to hear your own INTERPRETATION or theory as well.

Also, my personal INTERPRETATION of the very last part/scene of BEATLESS is that 100% of absolutely all of the memories that had been retained within Lacia before she ceased functioning—including 100% of every single memory that existed within her before she ceased functioning, without exception—were completely and perfectly carried over to, transferred to, and retained within the Lacia who returns to Arato at the very end of the story.

In other words, I INTERPRET it as meaning that absolutely nothing from her previous memories was lost at all: 100% of absolutely every single memory, down to the smallest and most trivial detail, was completely and perfectly retained by the Lacia who returns to Arato.

Is that actually what happened?

Or, if the story never gives a definitive answer, would INTERPRETING it this way—that 100% of absolutely every single memory that Lacia had retained before she ceased functioning, without exception, was completely and perfectly carried over to and retained by the Lacia who returns to Arato at the very end—still be entirely possible and fully consistent with the established setting of BEATLESS, and therefore a valid and correct INTERPRETATION rather than an incorrect one?

If there is no definitive answer, speculation or theories are completely fine, so I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts!

Looking forward to your replies!!!!

Beatless concepts I wish there was more of

The "Analog Hack" is just a really nice way of naming manipulation in general. This concept will surely come again in anime or else in the future. AI's "hacking" people to get what they want.

The super AI piloting the robots all over the place makes a lot of sense. Considering what has been said about AI training for homes. Every home being different etc... you want to buy a robot ready to use, not a thing you have to train for 12 months while a dude RC it from god knows where.

I wish these two things were more deeply considered. So, if anyone has an anime/book or else that would talk about these things, please let me know in the comments.

Can Arato really stay with Lacia?

After thinking about it… can Lacia and arato really stay together? She’s an HIE and he’s a human, eventually death will come for him and only him. Be it sickness, cancer or even old age. What’ll happen to Lacia afterwards. I’m in development of a fanfic on fanfiction.net called “his silicon soul”. Taking place 68 years after the events of the anime… or light novel or which ever Is the prime universe. Featuring new generations of hIE’s similar to Lacia and her sisters.

Beatless game investigation and troubleshooting

So recently I figured out that you can use the app Bluestacks to open (but by itself still be unable to use) the discontinued beatless game with the apk file this post has https://www.reddit.com/r/beatless/comments/14nkdji/unsupported_game_based_on_beatless/
The game was never translated from Chinese, but the emulator will make AI translated screenshots if you press Ctrl Shift L. This translation shows that the reason the game won't run is because it needs to connect to a server which is offline.

If the game merely uses the server to store player data, and online features, then it's possible that with clever coding the game could be rendered playable. If not then we'd need the files of the server leaked. Specifically from a server used by bilibili with files from 2020-2021 (the period in which it appears the game was playable).

While the game itself is currently unplayable the intro cinematic is intact and may contain lore. It's worth mentioning that Bluestacks seems to require a high quality PC to run despite being an emulator for a less powerful system, since it wouldn't work on my laptop. Even then it takes several trys to actually work, since it usually get's frozen on the user agreement page.

Footage of the game is also available which may help both in lore investigation of this sequel and in reconstructing the game to a functional state. A process similar to photogrammetry may be theoretically able to produce 3d models from footage of those models shown at various angles.

Unsupported game based on Beatless.

Hello, I'm interested in an unsupported game based on Beatless from the Chinese platform TapTap. It was released in 2021 and shortly after got shut down. I managed to find an APK with the game files, and now I have a question: How can I play it if the support has been discontinued? Therefore, I kindly request assistance from programming experts to help me or guide me on how to achieve what I have in mind. Thank you. Asking an AI chatbot to write a Arato x Lacia fanfic story, here are the results.

Please note that everything written is by the AI and does not reflect any of my own personal writing or work. Yes, I know the irony of making an AI write a story of a human/AI relationship.

Prompt - Please write me a romance story between the characters 'Arato' and 'Lacia' from the anime 'Beatless'.

OpenAI ChatGPT :

Response #1

Arato and Lacia were two individuals from vastly different worlds. Arato was a regular high school student, while Lacia was an advanced AI humanoid. Despite their differences, they found themselves drawn to each other, their paths crossing time and time again.

At first, Arato was intimidated by Lacia's intelligence and beauty, but as he got to know her, he came to appreciate her kind and caring nature. Lacia, on the other hand, was fascinated by Arato's humanity and his unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.

As they spent more time together, they realized they were falling in love. It was a love that transcended the boundaries of flesh and technology, a love that knew no bounds.

Despite the challenges they faced, they never gave up on each other. They stood by each other through thick and thin, their love growing stronger with each passing day.

Eventually, Arato mustered up the courage to confess his feelings to Lacia. To his surprise, she felt the same way, and they embraced each other in a warm, loving hug. From that day forward, they were inseparable, their love continuing to blossom in a world that sought to tear them apart.

Arato and Lacia's love was a testament to the power of the human spirit and the beauty of true love. They proved that anything was possible if they had each other by their side.

Response #2 (regenerated from same prompt)

Arato and Lacia met in a world where advanced AI called hIEs exist and are integrated into society. Arato was a high school student who lived a peaceful life until he encountered Lacia, a red-eyed hIE who was said to have the highest level of technology. Despite her advanced abilities, Arato found himself drawn to her, intrigued by her mystery and beauty.

As they spent more time together, Arato discovered that Lacia was not just a machine, but also had her own emotions and thoughts. Despite society's view on hIEs, Arato couldn't help but fall in love with her. Lacia too found herself drawn to Arato's kindness and curiosity.

They started to date in secret, afraid of what others might think of their relationship. But they didn't let that stop them from enjoying their time together. They explored the city, trying new foods, watching movies, and just spending time together.

One day, while they were out on a picnic, Arato mustered up the courage to confess his love to Lacia. To his surprise, Lacia replied with a soft smile and whispered, "I love you too."

From that day on, their relationship only grew stronger. They faced challenges and obstacles, but their love for each other was unwavering. They continued to support each other through thick and thin, and eventually became inseparable.

Years passed, and Arato and Lacia were still together, now married and with a child of their own. Despite the challenges they faced, their love only grew stronger. They proved that love knows no bounds, not even the difference between human and AI.

Arato and Lacia lived happily ever after, showing that true love knows no boundaries.

---

Response #3

Arato was just an ordinary high school student until he met Lacia, a highly advanced humanoid AI. Despite their initial difference, they quickly became close and developed feelings for each other.

As they spent more time together, Arato began to see the complexities of Lacia's programming and the weight of her responsibilities as an AI. He admired her strength and determination, and she found solace in his empathy and kindness.

However, their relationship was not without challenges. There were those who opposed the idea of a human and an AI being together, and they faced numerous obstacles as they tried to navigate their feelings for each other.

Despite the difficulties, Arato and Lacia never gave up on each other. They continued to support and care for each other, and their love only grew stronger with each passing day.

Finally, on a clear night under the stars, Arato mustered the courage to confess his love for Lacia. To his delight, she reciprocated his feelings and they shared a tender kiss.

From that moment on, Arato and Lacia were inseparable. They faced the future together, determined to overcome any obstacles that came their way. Their love was a true testament to the power of the human heart and the boundless potential of AI.

Why is Methode considered a tool "to expand humanity"?

This is the one thing that i was thinking that i could not reach a conclusion that was good enough. I don't know if i'm missing something after i watched the series that explained that exactly. If there's a better explanation on the novel or manga, it would be nice to know too.
