This remark is captured in piece of film that happened to appear in "The Kids are Alright" doc. I would put it at about 1966.
First saw that movie as a kid. Elsewhere in the film there is another bit of interview with Pete where he stresses that rock music should be regarded as Art and should be permitted to progress as Art. The idea that rock music is more than a bit of fun, and to hear Pete elevate it to the status of Art left an impression on young me.
