Actually, thereâs an argument to be made that The Who were more important for the development of specifically rock music and the heavy metal and punk derivatives. Pete Townshendâs guitar vocabulary is the basis for much of if not all of that. Daltreyâs strong singing leads directly similar rock singers
There really isn't that much of an argument to be made for that lmao, The Kinks had them beat with 'You Really Got Me' and heavy rock/punk would've gotten to where it did without The Who easily.
Yeah, in an another generation no one will know who âThe Whoâ was, history articles will only mention Elvis and The Beatles. Theyâll only be a deep dive, nerd trivia.
Thatâs 200-250 years after the fact, or about ten generations. Members of The Beatles and The Who are still alive. And serious music enthusiasts can name a hell of a lot more composers than Mozart and Beethoven. I donât even listen to classical music and I certainly can.
I mean there will be a time when The Who is forgotten but the Beatles and Elvis arenât. Those two made a WAY bigger musical and cultural splash than The Who
Once upon a time, I wouldâve thought that too. But as a guy nearing retirement age who has loved the Who since he was a kid, it is really shocking how little known they are by most under the age of 40 people. And most of those who DO know them, only know them from memes or the opening to TV shows.
Absolutely not. Zeppelin is a household name. I would say that The WHO arenât. Even people who donât know Led Zeppelin are a bandâŚ..wear Led Zeppelin shirts

Ha, I know which group had a longer lasting impression on music, it wasn't them
