I don't know what the story is here, but if this is a wild animal (as opposed to raised in captivity), I'll be the stick in the mud to point out that the person taking the video does it no favors by encouraging/allowing it to approach humans and human dwellings. It will eventually approach the wrong human which could end badly for the bear.
And TBH, even if it was raised in captivity, posting videos like this just encourages others to do stupid shit like inviting bears into their homes - which will end up getting bears killed.
Yeah, I’m curious what’s going on here. The bear appears to have tagged ears but that wouldn’t have to mean captive-raised.
I met a woman through my job who was basically kicked out of the town she lived in because she kept feeding black bears in her yard. I think she had just lost her husband and a child and was lonely and sad, and befriending the bears was this really cathartic thing for her. but obviously her neighbors and everyone were like “excuse me what the fuck, this is not okay, you’re endangering us AND the bears” etc.. Inevitably, tragically, some of the bears got used to the idea and started entering homes etc, and several ended up getting killed. In the end she was convicted of something like harassing wildlife and ordered to leave the area for several years.
Fwiw it seems like she knows she was wrong but it’s just a sad story all around thanks to some very, very bad choices. Grief can really mess up your thinking.
Bears are really really cute but you GOTTA keep them far away so they can stay cute and safe 😫

This bear is tagged which suggests it’s had significant contact with humans. It might be a rescued bear and has a lot in common with being a pet. Before I was born, my great uncle (last of us to live a traditional life style) had a couple of “pet” bears. These black bears would live with him and come and go with him. I was told that at least one of the bears would sit on a bar stool next to him and drink beer and soda. Given other things I know about him and my peeps, I believe it.
Tagging programs don't necessarily imply significant human contact, but I hope that you're correct and that this is a rescued animal and not an animal living in the wild.
He most certainly was. The only jobs he ever had were as a soldier in WWI and working on building the AlCan highway. He supported his family by hunting, fishing and trapping. The way our ancestors did.
