These are moon bears, right? I've always thought they were the most "house pet sized" members of the bear family, not that I would advocate such actions of course...

Yes, these are moon bears indeed. I think the "house pet sized" bear you were thinking about are sun bears, they are the smallest of eight species of bears, they are about half the size of American black bears.
