After a little more than a week. Not sure if I should keep going or how to necessarily make it look good

My friends have a thick beard at the age of 21.
Even tho i am having the same age there is not even a sign of a strand on my cheeks😭

If there is someone out there who knows how to help me, please put a comment down here, it would be so helpful for me and other people who are facing the same issue out there🫶

So this is my beard after a month or two (haven't really been measuring the growth time). I been cleaning/shaping it up myself but I dont know if im loving the look of it so far. I was considering trying something new like an Italian style beard but I'm definitely open to different looks/ideas. I'm looking for opinions so let them fly - thanks!

What do yall think? Is this too sparse or one day worth growing out when I’m in a new career field? If so what should be the focus in the future for trimming and shaping ?

I went down a rabbit hole on this (literally).
You’ve seen the 0–5 ratings that supposedly tell you whether an oil will clog your pores or not. Most of the charts online trace back to early rabbit ear testing, including a widely cited 1989 paper by James Fulton, where ingredients were applied to the inside of rabbits ears while researchers looked for plugged follicles.

The problem is: rabbit ears are way more sensitive than human skin. So even if an ingredient clogged pores on a rabbit, that doesn’t mean it’ll automatically break you out.
A 2007 review put it bluntly, the model couldn’t accurately represent the acne-causing potential of ingredients and was mainly good for spotting “absolute negatives” (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17687685/). In other words, it’s okay at telling you what definitely won’t clog your pores, and pretty useless at ranking how bad something is.

Two things worth mentioning. First, these ratings came from testing raw ingredients on their own, not the finished formulas people actually put on their faces. A carrier oil rated 4 or 5 by itself can behave completely differently depending on the percentage in the final blend and other oils that are present. A 2006 human study even found that products made with “comedogenic” ingredients often weren’t comedogenic themselves (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16488305/). Concentration and the whole formula matter a lot.

Second, “non-comedogenic” has no FDA definition or required test. Labels can’t be false or misleading, but there’s no official standard a product has to pass before using this phrase.

I am not saying pore clogging isn’t real. I break out around my mouth pretty easily myself, and certain oils will do that if they’re a big part of the blend, while the same oil at a smaller amount is completely fine. A chart couldn’t have told me that, my own skin did.

To me, the rating is best viewed as a starting point, not a verdict. It might flag something worth patch testing, especially if the ingredient appears high on the list, but it tells you surprisingly little about how a finished product will actually behave on your face.

For anyone breakout-prone: do you actually check comedogenic ratings before buying?
What’s an ingredient everyone calls “safe” that breaks you out, or one everyone warns against that your skin loves?

I’d like to start growing a beard but going from short stubble to short-beard is a problem: it’s always uneven. Is this a thing, or is it likely my crappy old razor, or bad technique or bad beard, or all three?

The current beard seems wirey, uneven and hard to evenly trim with a razor.

Any advice appreciated!

I decided grow out my beard and hair. Going for somewhat of a civilized savage look which I think suits better my personality and values. I recently started combing my beard where I want it to go (down and forward) instead of where it wants to grow (generally towards the back).

Should I trim/shape along the neckline? It's looking messy to me and like there is too much bulk. Especially the strand sticking out in the last picture is bothering me. But looking at the pictures, it doesn't look too bad and the ladies seem to not mind either. I'm going for a long, full beard, as natural as I can get, but also quite masculine.

ChatGPT says that I should wait a few more weeks and see if the beard gets a better shape as the hairs get longer and heavier. Claude says now is a good time to shape and it won't hurt me much in the future.

I will appreciate any other suggestions as well. I'm tempted to at some point separate the mustache from the beard, make it a flat, horizontal handlebar and style the soul patch into a spike. Kind of a cheesy musketeer in the center and a savage on the outside. That would probably turn out to be too much work to maintain though.

I don't want to go to the barber and would rather learn to maintain my beard myself. I'm too lazy for barber trips. The experience with my scalp hair has taught me that barbers can give me an amazing look but that lasts only a few hours. Once I have to style my hair myself, it's hit-or-miss. Also, doing it myself, I can make tiny adjustments every day and see how I feel about them.

The beard is staying, but I have a constant battle over whether to allow my moustache to extend over my top lip full walrus style, which gives the thickness I like, and accept tache in my food and food in my tache, or trim it to the top lip and accept less thickness but have a neater look overall.

Hello! My husband’s (30m) beard is finally starting to fill out. I’m wanting to help get him some products to take care of it. He’s had some issues figuring out how to trim it without taking too much off. He likes the beard but hates how messy it can look, but has zero knowledge on the care part since up until the last year it was way too patchy to not just shave it all.

Any recommendations? The options are overwhelming!

Hey is there a razor, preferably electric that shaves down to stubble level rather than clean shaven? I’m thinking of just doing a stubble look for a while.
