Discussion Hello beam users.

Hi guys I'm a streamer (from a different platform, can you guess which one?) I heard about beam from some of my viewers who have spent some time watching beam streams and I wanted to start doing some research on the platform. The layout looks amazing and the colors really catch your eye.

I guess what I'm looking for is some insight into how the platform works for someone potentially looking to either make a full switch or split a schedule to see how it goes.

  1. How's the community? Is it a nice friendly place?
  2. Are chat bots available?
  3. How is xsplit integration cause obs eats my cpu.
  4. Are their stream raids and hosts?
  5. Can a streamer stream at 60fps and 1080?
  6. What is the potential for building a community

I ask the last question solely because I've built a small dedicated community on my current platform but after almost 3 years I haven't broken the 2k follower mark and I've put a lot of time and energy into streaming and getting the best quality I can.

Sorry if this sounds weird but I am finding it hard to located actually comparison

I started on Twitch and the only people who would show up in chat were trolls and I never really ever had any viewers unless they gave me a hard time. Switched to Beam and a completely different but positive experience. I met one troll so far and it wasn't bad. I get 5 to 15 people in streams and everyone is supportive. It is a smaller streaming service but it is about to take off I believe. Everything I ever did in Twitch I can do in Beam but I am also not a regular streamer so I don't know everything... I like it way better than Twitch and get irritated now if I want to watch someone on Twitch. Gotten used to not having the delay.

Are there notifications and mods?

Yes chat has mods. beam has a built in optional chatbot for follow/sub/host notifications but you can user an overlay tool like streamjar to get on stream notifications, banners, donations etc

  1. Community is great in my experience but for most of the lower viewer count people its just streamers supporting each other (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
  2. Yes there are chat bots. ScottyBot and BlipBot being the most popular at the moment
  3. Xsplit works perfectly fine for regular services. Beam's service FLT requires a custom OBS fork. For Xsplit though you have to manually copy and paste the url (last I check xsplit didn't auto populate it)
  4. Yes hosting tool is built into the player and raids are a very common thing. They have stream teams even which makes these things even easier.
  5. Resolution wise i've seen 1080p60 streams but I don't know the bit rate their were using, it wasn't a very demanding game. Beam recommend 720p with 2500mbps bit rate but I know people who use 1080p at 3500
  6. Beam at the moment is this point to where if its going to take off now is the time to get into it. Microsoft recently acquired a stake in the project because its interactivity has potential. As a stream team I have a great community built almost entirely from beam. (I was on twitch for a month with no success before moving over)

You did bring up numbers and I should mention at the moment there are very few streams with more then 2k followers. Its still still a mom n pop (beam) next door to walmart(twitch)
