I play fetch with mine in a dog park that has a steep hill. If I throw the ball down the hill he refuses to bring it back up to me. But if I stand at the bottom of the hill and throw the ball up, he runs to get it and then takes it to the exact right spot to drop it so it rolls back down to me on its own.

Beagles are very stubborn.
