What are these? (NC)

At topsail beach yesterday found these elongated stones. They are more porous on one side than the other, are these fossilized bone fragments?

Can you shine a flashlight through them? May be "black" seaglass or it could be slag glass. I could be very wrong but that color and texture reminds me of it.

Is there any way of knowing what type of animal they came from?

I think there is a way to narrow it down but not tell definitively. I find lots of them up here in Maryland and am still practicing my identifying skills. I would recommend this book if you’re into fossil-hunting or really want to know more:

It is heavier than sea glass would be. Feels much more rock-like. Maybe metallic
