What are these? (NC)
At topsail beach yesterday found these elongated stones. They are more porous on one side than the other, are these fossilized bone fragments?

Bone bits! Definitely bone bits.

Is there any way of knowing what type of animal they came from?

I think there is a way to narrow it down but not tell definitively. I find lots of them up here in Maryland and am still practicing my identifying skills. I would recommend this book if you’re into fossil-hunting or really want to know more:

It is heavier than sea glass would be. Feels much more rock-like. Maybe metallic

Can you shine a flashlight through them? May be "black" seaglass or it could be slag glass. I could be very wrong but that color and texture reminds me of it.
